Pixx is the nom de guerre of 19 year-old Hannah Rodgers, a young songwriter from Chipstead, just beyond the fringes of south London where suburban sprawl starts to break into countryside. Born to a music-loving family, her creative side was nurtured and encouraged from a young age and her burgeoning talent didn’t go unnoticed, earning her a place at The BRIT School, the renowned performing arts college located not far from her home.Inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Aphex Twin and adopting her grandmother’s nickname, Hannah is striking it out alone as Pixx. Her recording debut, Fall In, is released by 4AD on August 28th. Hannah said, “it’s incredible to be welcomed with open arms to a label that is home to so many artists that have influenced me over the years.” A collection of four electronic folk-infused torch songs, Fall In is the perfect introduction to the mysterious world Pixx’s music inhabits, with a brand new video for the title track serving as an apt visual foil. Directed by The Marshall Darlings and filmed on location along the south coast of England.“For 19-year-old Pixx, possesses the same celestial qualities as fellow label-mates Cocteau Twins or Blonde Redhead, with a little of astral, new age aesthetic of Grimes and the gothic melancholy of Bauhaus. A graduate of the Brit school, she joins King Krule and TĀLĀ as part of a new generation of credible creatives spawned by the renowned performing arts college.” - The Guardian“Born from mishearing a Cocteau Twins lyric, A Way To Say Goodbye is pure joy. It's a warped folktronica number, with grand pop pianos, fey pastel-shade dream-haze synths, and embers at its core giving a wamrth of soul.” - Line Of Best Fit“fall In is a beautifully rendered bit of water-logged pop that asks the question, “What can I do?” and responds with “I can’t please you” and a reverie of Rodgers’ weightless moaning. Her sound fits in well with her labelmates, somewhere between Grimes’ airy pop and Holly Herndon’s more experimental side.” – StereogumPixx (real name Hannah Rodgers) came of age in suburbia – Chipstead, to be exact – and turned to music at a young age. “My dad plays guitar and sings, he's always been writing songs since I was little so I just picked it up off him,” she explains. “I used to sing with him when he played, and then eventually I thought maybe I should give it a shot.”A natural, she quickly began drawing together both music and poetry. Choosing the name Pixx in honour of her grandmother, the pieces seemed to fall into place with remarkable ease. “I think lyrics are a key thing for me. Any song I listen to, if it captures my attention I immediately want to write down the lyrics and try to learn from them. I find it interesting how different people phrase their lyrics.”Debut EP 'Fall In' is a beautiful, highly evocative piece of work – four songs of exquisite imagination, the dream-like atmosphere flits between acoustic guitar and electronic textures, all held together by that youthful, lilting voice. “I usually write all on acoustic guitar and then once I've written the song I go and plug in with my electric and put some effects on it and try to find the right sound. It sort of all stems from folk music, really, everything that I write. I'm very into Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Anne Briggs – people like that.” - Clash Music
