Sound bar sounds good
- June 21, 2021[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It is forward firing instead of my Sony Bravia XR 55 X90J's downward firing speakers, so it is better sound. Yet, it needs to push the volume up much more than the TV speakers. Geek Squad set it so that the sound automatically goes through the Sony HT-S200F sound bar that is a good compact size for my 55" TV. The price was much more reasonable. SONY TV and Sony Sound Bar are in a living room kitchen approx 19' x 13'.

Great sound and size for compact spaces.
- March 25, 2020[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Verdict: I LOVE this soundbar because it accomplishes exactly what it advertises: great sound in a small package. We had very limited space and this surpassed our expectations in volume and sound quality for a soundbar this size and at this price range. Initial impressions. It is small, sleek, and the weight gives the impression of quality. The most impressive visual feature is the leather appearance on the top of the top of the speaker, that is a really nice touch. Setup. Setup was a breeze. The TV we wanted to use with this soundbar does not have an HDMI ARC connector, nor Bluetooth, so I had to use the optical option. It took me about two minutes to hook up the optical line on each device and plug the power in. From there, I cranked up the volume on the sound bar, and turned the volume down on the TV, and it worked. I could get a better experience with these speakers with a newer TV, but we are still holding on to an older large size TV. Sound. To put it simply, this soundbar blows the TV sound out of the water. We regularly complained that this particularly TV had poor sound that shortchanged whatever we watched on it. This problem is now fixed. The sound is good and full, providing decent performance across the full range. There is no separate bass unit so manage your expectation on lows… nonetheless, the built-in subwoofer is sufficient for enjoyment. The overall sound is loud enough; I don’t think we will really ever watch content at full sound on this soundbar. The surround sound effect is decent and definitely better than the TV’s. Size. My favorite aspect of this speaker is its size. We needed a soundbar for this specific TV for a long time, but I didn’t think I could find something that would perfectly fit in the small space I had next to the TV… but this soundbar is PERFECT! So if you are tight on space and want good sound (and much better than the stock TV sound) then this is it. Things I like: - Compact size but very capable sound - Built-in subwoofer, and virtual surround sound - Variable connection options: Bluetooth, HDMI, and optical - Plug and play and easy to use Things I don’t like: - The remote control feels a little cheap, and there are way too many buttons. Other manufacturers have shown that you really don’t need that many buttons on remote. - The LED feedback on the speaker is not easily visible from different angles, so it’s not always obvious that something is going on when you press the remote. Overall, this is a fantastic soundbar. I would highly recommend it if you want better sound for your TV with the latest sound technology but you have space constraint like we do.

Perfect compact sound bar in budget!
- August 8, 2020[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's small but powerful. Easy set up with TV. Deep bass with built-in subwoofer. Everything you need for your home in a small box. The coolest feature is the HDMI ARC2 and Bluetooth technology which ensure a seamless connection with your TV without all the wires and it means you can control this with your regular TV remote. So no need for the universal remote setup! Bluetooth to your phone/tab allows for music streaming/playing and the sound-bar has the smart feature to switch to Bluetooth when connected and back to HDMI (ARC) for TV sound without manual intervention.

Good soundbar for bedrooms and small offices
- March 27, 2020[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Soundbars come in various sizes and shapes. For the vast majority of soundbars on the market, the audio quality varies depending on the brand and features. However, what is consistent with most soundbars is the quality of sound sometimes is a bit lacking, perhaps a bit tinny and missing on the low end of the audio spectrum. To address that lack there-of, many manufacturers, including Sony produce soundbars with an external subwoofer to complement the soundbar. In the compact soundbar market, this soundbar HTS200F aims to solve that problem with a soundbar with a built-in subwoofer. First off, one has to keep their expectations of a ‘subwoofer’ at a reasonable level. This is not a subwoofer that can hit lows frequencies with a big thump, rather this is a subwoofer that complements the existing mid-high speakers with a lower end frequency. This is more a ‘woofer’ than a sub-woofer. That said, this soundbar is 23 inches long and sits perfectly below most tv screens, regardless of size. Its ideal for the sub 40” TV’s, but is well suited for the 55” that I had used for testing. The soundbar is very well built, and its 5 lb heft shows. Sound is produced by two 2” mid-high speakers, and a 2.5” sub-woofer. There are two ports on either side for increasing the low-end response, and they seem to work rather well in amplifying the low end. The 80-watt amplifier is linked with three inputs, Bluetooth, Optical (TOSLink) and HDMI-ARC. The speaker’s metal front grille is complemented by its leathery surface on top. This build quality is top-notch and definitely a plus, and it looks lovely right under the TV or monitor. The top-mounted buttons allow you to go without the remote for the basic tasks but using a remote helps access many more functions. I did not like the exposed sub-speaker, but it should not matter as it’s out of the way. I did appreciate the keyhole mounts on the back to allow for the wall mount of the speaker. Setting up the soundbar is rather easy. Hookups are either Optical, Bluetooth or HDMI-ARC. Most people are familiar with Bluetooth. It is great for connecting to phones for audio, and also for those TV’s that feature Bluetooth audio. Most TVs have an optical out, and one could use this to connect the TV, even if it limits you to having to use a separate remote to adjust the sound. The HDMI-ARC option is the best and most intriguing. First off, this soundbar only has an HDMI-ARC and not an input. Which means, your TV should have its HDMI-ARC port open for you to use this feature. In my case, my HDMI-ARC on my TV was utilized by another device, so I had to re-route the connectors for a hookup. Once hooked up with the right ports, HDMI-ARC allows you to control the soundbar from your tv, and bring about universal remote features. The soundbar only supports Dolby Digital (on HDMI-ARC or Optical) so your expectation of simulated 5.1 surround sound is going to be limited as it downmixes the 5.1 surrounds to a 2.1 signal. The Sony S-Force sound optimization is the default sound profile on powerup and is generally quite good. Nevertheless, there are other sound profiles available, including a voice profile which enhances clarity of the vocal tracks, overall the vocal track clarity in all sound modes helps make tv watching more enjoyable. The speaker when first powered up sounded mighty tinny and honestly quite a bit muddy, it was not what I was expecting. However, given about five hours of playtime, and the sound got significantly better. The vocals got crisp and the overall sound improved. The stereo separation is a bit lacking due to the size, but that was expected. The speaker excels in voice dialogue. It’s mediocre when it comes to movie explosions, and soundstage, and definitely not a speaker for enjoying music with a wide complement of instrument frequencies. The amplifier can get loud but starts to sound muddy over 80% of max volume when playing movies with lots of explosions or music. Voice is clear and in general, any sort of vocal source including that of podcasts via Bluetooth was extremely clear. After having listened to this for seven days with various audio programs and settings, I believe this is a good starter soundbar for a bedroom or office. It would not work as the main room sound system unless you plan to use it as a soundbar to enhance the audio coming out of the TV. It is best for small/medium rooms. As it stands, I have relocated this to my bedroom, and now my dedicated computer speaker hooked to my computer via Bluetooth. It works great for watching streaming videos and listening to podcasts. As it is in a near-field situation, I do not have to turn the volume up too loud as it is very clear. Pros: * Great build quality, blends in with the TV * Very good vocal dialogue clarity, decent movie and music experience at lower volumes Cons: * Missing an analog input * The lights up front identify input, but hard to tell what sound mode or other options are as there is no screen to identify sound profiles. * The speaker feels like it has a narrow band of frequencies, it cannot get too low or high on the audio frequency spectrum. Hi-hat sounds are not as clear, and generally, lower-end frequencies are muddy at high volumes.

Like being at the theater
- August 12, 2021[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Sony soundbar is definitely a must have! It’s like having the theater in your living room (or whatever room you choose to put it in). We are in the middle of painting, so we haven’t put it in the wall yet, but the sound effects would be so much better once we do. It’s super easy to set up even if you’re not tech savvy. Simply use an HDMI cable and you’re good to go. It even comes with a remote, which I just love. As far as sound goes, man it’s amazing!! It’s so clear and so loud (if you choose it to be). It’s literally like being at the movie theater. The sound effects make you feel like the action is going on at your house. Listening to music on it is amazing too. It’s exactly what I expected it to be. Doesn’t take up much space and adds excitement to any movie/show.

Great product!
- November 23, 2024[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great purchase! This product really exceeded my expectations. Really has a nice sound with even without the subwoofer! I was lucky to find an open box deal on Best Buy so got it for a fraction of the original price. You can’t beat that! One thing that would make this product even better would be an analog display to see what features are being used instead of just guessing since the remote has plenty of features. But over all I am really happy with my purchase. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great soundbar at a great cost.

Great for a bedroom or simple improvement
- March 25, 2020[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This sound bar is perfect for a bedroom or if you want to simply just improve the sound of your standard tv speakers. I installed it in my bedroom which was really simple with an optic cable Which is included but is a super cheap cable. The cable is flimsy and I used a more high end optic cable to make sure I was getting the best sound. After setup I made my xfinity remote pair right up with the xfinity on screw directions and the sound bar had no trouble communicating with the xfinity xFi remote. I like that their is an option to automatically change its own sound settings but to be honest I could only tell a small difference between them. Since I want more cinema sound I left mine on cinema but I have found myself switching back to that auto setting just to see the different sounds it could make. The bar looks cool and even has Sony’s leather style they have been recently using. Looks great under the tv. I will have to say though that that Sony leather part did turn some slight white which I did wipe off. I am not sure if it was because it was shipped in the cold and now got warm? Yet this still shouldn’t happen to a sound bar and is part of the reason for the three stars. I enjoy high end sound systems and I would not put this sound bar in that category. I would say this is Sony version of a budget friendly sound bar that has more of a quality look compared to it competitors in this price range for a compact sound bar. If Someone wants awesome sound you will need to look for a more expensive sound bar other wise this will get the job done and improve your TVs sound. I wanted to note this sound bar does not fall asleep compared to some other competitors. I have used sound bars that will turn off after a few minutes if I paused my tv. So far this sound bar stayed on and ready even after a little while of the TV being paused.
