    I bought via Staples in Oct 2014 for a Lenovo ThinkPad and an old Samsung monitor which, as an optional external monitor, has a valuable feature, the ability to rotate to portrait orientation. The StarTech adapter worked without any fuss. I turned the monitor on before connecting, and it was not difficult to find the menus for alternating between displays and changing the orientation.
