Get a good night’s sleep with a soft and luxurious sheet set

What are sheets sets?

A sheet set typically includes a flat sheet, fitted sheet, and from 1-4 pillowcases, all of which match in style and size. They can be made from a variety of materials, commonly cotton, Egyptian cotton, bamboo, microfibre, rayon, or a blend; though you can also get silk and satin sheets.

They come in standard sizes, including twin, full/double, queen, and king, and to accommodate crib-sized mattresses for toddler beds. Thread counts can range from 250 or 300 all the way up to 1,500.

There’s an endless number of styles and designs from which to choose, including solid colours, patterns, stripes, checkered designs, and more. For kids, you can get options like Disney-themed sheets, or sheets that feature characters or designs based on popular movies, TV shows, superheroes, or video games.

What to look for in a sheet set?

First and foremost, you need a sheet set that will fit the size of your bed. Some have deep pockets so the fitted sheet can securely wrap around mattresses that are particularly high.

You want a colour, style, or design that matches the bedroom furniture and/or the colour theme of the room. If you are also getting a duvet, comforter, or quilt, or already have one, make sure the sheet set matches that, too.

Select how many pillow cases you need based on the number of pillows you use (twin sets usually only include one), and consider that some duvets come with matching pillow cases.

Which sheet set is best for me?

There are lots of bedding sets from which to choose, so you can find the best bed sheets for you. Once you narrow down the decision based on the considerations above, look at other useful features. The material, for instance, can make a difference. The higher the thread count, typically the softer the sheets, and the longer they might last.

Some materials, like bamboo, are hypoallergenic, antibacterial, and breathable, wicking away moisture, making it ideal if you have allergies, or get really hot and sweaty at night. Microfibre materials, meanwhile, can also keep you warm in the winter but cool in the summer. Some sheets are designed to remove shorter fibres to prevent irritation and pilling.

Most bed sheet sets are machine washable, but some can dry quicker than others, and come wrinkle-free out of the dryer. Some sheet sets include extra fabric to allow for shrinkage. A neat feature to consider with pillow cases is a European fold, which folds under like an envelope to prevent the pillow from sliding out.

You might also want to consider bed sheets that are made in Canada, and with eco-friendly and sustainable materials, like bamboo. Stain-resistant fabric could also be useful for the bed of a child who is prone to accidents.
