[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a very amazing lock system ! It give the option after very simple calibration to check if your door is open or eventually locked but is open position ! You knows exactly when the door is locked and fully secured! I have added this lock to one of my villa and open the door 900 km Away from my place when needed to have the staff to get in .

    Safety, Security, Simplicity

    Reviewed by - May 5, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] --- SETUP --- The setup for August Smart Wi-Fi lock requires that you know how to install door knobs. This was my second door knob installation and I didn’t struggle at all. Very short videos play on a loop until you are ready for the next step and I was able to install everything in less than 30 minutes. --- FEATURES --- The key feature of this August Smart Wi-Fi lock is that it can open your door automatically as you approach your home, lock your door automatically after a timer ranging from 30 seconds up to 30 minutes. It can connect with your existing smart home devices including Google Home, Alexa, and Siri. Best of all, it works with your existing door bolt. --- PERFORMANCE --- The performance of the lock itself is great! I enjoyed the calibration process because it gives me a piece of mind that I had control over the level of detection alerts I got on the app (for example, if the door is slightly ajar). It was easy to add a second owner and my wife, who prefers to interact with tech as little as possible, found it very user-friendly and loved that she didn’t even have to take out the phone upon her return home. In my home, I have Alexa and Siri as my home assistants. I had a harder time connecting the August to Alexa, but it worked seamlessly and automatically with Siri. While I was away from home, my Shipt shopper arrived with groceries. I told her the door was about to unlock and asked her to put my groceries inside and to just close the door behind her. She did so and I was able to see my groceries with my home camera system and lock the door with August. --- EXPECTATIONS --- The product exceeds my expectations. Before this August system, I had a keyless entry lock that required you to press a keypad and turn the lock manually. I actually left the facade of that installed but now August is taking care of locking and unlocking the door. It is easier to change the batteries on this August lock than my previous keyless entry and I can still use my existing key if it runs out of battery. The only issue I had was a small hiccup where I couldn’t change any settings on the lock because the lock wasn’t connecting to my home WiFi. I had to close the app and reopen it and it worked after that. --- VALUE --- The price for the smart lock in terms of value is a worthy investment giving you peace of mind with notifications that your door may have been left ajar or an entry had been detected. I like to think of prices relative to how often a device will get used and this lock will get used more than once daily for sure. --- APPROVAL --- I highly recommend this product for people who want to complete their smart home setup or want to venture into starting one. It’s a great place to begin and doesn’t require a lot of handyman skill to get it installed.

Doesn't extend deadbolt all the way

    Reviewed by - May 6, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I must admin, I’m an IT guy by career and unlike most seasoned pros, I do enjoy IoT and Smart Devices in my home. Over the past few months, I’ve looked at Smart Locks and did get this to try out. The short of it: It’s going back in the box, never to be used again. The first thing I saw, was that the two pieces of sealing tape (to show it’s never been opened), were cut. The installation was fine, you need even less skill than installing a new deadbolt. One thing I found strange, is that I expected the product to sit “on top” of the existing deadbolt lever; that’s not the case. You remove the plate and lever and install this into the door, as if you were replacing the deadbolt entirely (keeping the outside/keyhole) as to still be able to use the key, in the event of WiFi/Bluetooth/tech issues. With the install kit, you also get some (painters) tape to cover the outside portion of the deadbolt, so it doesn’t fall out during the install. With an older door and a Schlage deadbolt that’s around a 15 years old, this installed into the deadbolt mechanism without issue. I did end up using the extra back-plate, as the lock itself didn’t cover the hole entirely. After the install was done, it was configuration time. In today’s WiFi land and with Mesh being more and more common, SSIDs are the same for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. If you DO have that, then you’re in trouble here. No matter what Access Point I used (Linksys or Ubiquiti), the lock setup failed because they run 2.4 & 5 on the same SSID. I went into my less used Ubiquiti Access Point and disabled 5GHz; setup was able to continue now that only 2.4GHz was present. Given this issue during setup, I questioned the technology here, immediately. I mounted the sensor on the wall near the door (you can drill into the door and not have any external/visible sensors), but I didn’t want to do this and completed the calibration. Even during calibration, I had issues unlocking and locking. I’d press the screen and it’s say the state changed, but nothing happened. Twisting the lock to engage the deadbolt a few times, would allow the App to work but then I noticed something. The deadbolt doesn’t extend the full length! Who wants a deadbolt that doesn’t go all the way into the frame? Not me! See the attached pictures for what I’m talking about. This is bad. My regular deadbolt extends 1in into the door frame - or thereabouts, once it passes the brass. With this “Smart Lock” - it only extends 0.5in. I could pull the deadbolt and push it as if it wasn’t completely connected internally, but when I twisted the lock mechanism and held my hand against it for resistance, the deadbolt only extended half an inch. I tied it into Google Home, but it wouldn’t work correctly. I got voice prompts back that it was "trying to do something" but it wouldn’t open or close. Google always told me that it was locked or already open, nothing ever happened. Then, I went back into the App to lock the door and it wouldn’t connect anymore. I waited another day, but it still wouldn’t connect. I uninstalled this and put my normal deadbolt back in.

My fourth new August Lock- keeps getting better

    Reviewed by - July 13, 2025

I started buying August locks probably 10 years ago. I’ve used them for my house, my Airbnb, my mother’s house, everywhere I can so I can avoid carrying a key on a ring. They have gotten better and better. This is my first August with built in WiFi-a huge improvement. My 83 year old mother, 99% of my Airbnb guests, and friends and family are able to operate them without incident. I have used the app, key pads and WiFi bridges. My only criticism is the key pads go through batteries quickly. The first photo is my new lock, the last photo is my original August lock and the middle one is a version in between.

The August Smart lock is Incredible.

    Reviewed by - November 10, 2023

I purchased a smart lock almost 2 years ago & it is always reliable. It never lets me down. It also has smart features and the app always works. The device is not visible to outside viewers. It’s very good because people don’t know you have a smart device so they can’t force you to open the door if they don’t see a key and that helps you to protect your house in a better way.

    Great customer service!

    Reviewed by - October 14, 2022

I was having problems with my lock communicating through Bluetooth, through Wi-Fi and through the keypad. One conversation that took a total of 5 minutes and the customer service guy had me up and running! Saved my entire weekend as I am going out of town and would not be here to greet my Airbnb guests! It's a great looking product. Both the door lock inside my unit as well as the keypad outside the unit both look professionally installed. And trust me I am no professional installer of anything. I didn't get the guy's name and I regret that but he was awesome and I love my August Smart Lock!

    Love my August lock

    Reviewed by - February 1, 2025

I bought this 4 years ago when we first bought our current home. At first we just used Bluetooth because the router was too far away, but we ended up moving the router for other reasons and now the door connects to the WiFi making it easy to lock or unlock the door remotely or even from the car as we pull up. I like that it looks like a regular lock from the outside so no one will try to use random codes to try and hack it. We use the bronze one and I added a tiny glow in the dark triangle sticker so we can see from across the large room if it’s in “locked” position. I highly recommend it.

    LOVE my smart lock!

Bought this August lock in 2021 for our new house and I’ve loved it ever since. No need to give my kids or other family or guests keys and I always know who and when the door is opened or closed/unlocked or locked. The app is super easy to use and it looks like a regular lock from the outside so it doesn’t draw hackers attention. I recommend it!

    Awesomely Good!!!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - October 2, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love technology and I was looking for something to get rid of my house key. I am renting, so I didn’t want to modify the front door at all, after reading and doing some research I went for this one. It works like a charm (Both, the deadbolt and door sensor). By the way, for those that don’t have the door frame and door at the same level (like Myself) and are concerned if the door sense can be installed/functional..... it is not a problem at all. Here is are pictures of what I did and it’s working perfectly. I love not having keys on me at all (I purchased a Tesla too ;)

Great way to make your home/apt/room Smart & Safe

    Reviewed by - May 15, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sleek design, super easy to install, and no bridge required to add some really cool features to something as simple as a door deadbolt. You can set this to lock automatically after you leave, and then auto unlock upon approach using your smartphone or apple watch thru geo-fencing. While you can totally still use your hardware keys which is good peace of mind, you can also issue virtual guest keys with the app for your neighbors, guests, service crew, etc The August app is simple to use and shows a nice log of which family members, or physical access occurred. You can create alerts based on activity that you would like to monitor if you choose. Pairing w/ Amazon Echo/Alexa was simple. Make sure to enable the skill in the Alexa app. Also, by tapping in to your door frame w/ a drill bit, you can activate DoorSense - which after simple installation/calibration allows you to determine whether your door is closed and locked. Total time from unboxing to install was 7 minutes. The August icon on the lock itself is actually an indicator and will flash red for locked and green for open, as well as making a pleasant chime. Great device, can't wait to grab a few more!
