So After much review and trialing one other Blendtec, which we kept, and a vitamin mix which I returned due to a recall for black specks, I settled on this blender. Figured if the blender performance matched the price it would be worth it. I rate it 5/5 for encasement ability to reduce the decibels. However, if you are getting this blender with plans to make ice cream, then look elsewhere. YOU NEED A TAMPER, this is where the vitamin is superior. The tamper prevents the air pockets from forming...YOU CAN NOT MAKE ICE CREAM WITHOUT A TAMPER. The ingredients will become compacted at the bottom and until you scrape/stir it you can't continue to blend. I used the back of the Blendtec spatula as a makeshift tamper, which is tricky because of depth, too much and you contact the blade. Blendtec is behind on this tech and does not have a tamper for it's a blender. I think they are in denial. regardless of how many servings you are making it won't work. That's what I told customer service, which is awful. Their response was to add more milk...well then it will be a Milkshake. I wanted to blend frozen berries and had all the seeds in it still and it came out like a smoothie bowl so I put it in the freezer for it to become more sorbet like.

I’m really torn. I used a Ninja for years that did the basic job but couldn’t breakdown dates, spinach and berry seeds. I vowed to one day buy an expensive blender that could. I worked at a GNC smoothie bar over a decade ago and similar to all professional places- the texture is what we want! Not too thin- not too thick; no chewing please. I’m a smoothie junkie- at least once a day. I also make açaí bowls religiously. I bought a vitamix months ago and it co tinued to have cavitation issues. I returned it. I chose this Blendtec even though the price is painful. I even said Oh well- I’ll buy the twister jar too. So here we are... the regular blender is great if you want a really runny smoothie. Follow any of their recipes and it’s like a milk thickness and just sad. Want thicker? You’ll have to open the lid just like any other blender and spoon the ingredients around multiple times to avoid cavitation and a thin smoothie. That’s a freakin bummer for the price. Insert the twister jar... great for ice cream for the kids but I have made huge messes multiple times trying to clean it or do a thicker smoothie. Overall, I’m trying to be patient and see how it goes but I feel like I paid way too much to be opening the cover and the lid to still stir the smoothie. I will say the Ninja- didn’t really have the cavitation problems these more expensive ones have had and it’s weird because it supposedly is weaker? The blendtec does breakdown dates and spinach so far but I do run multiple programs.
