- It's the printer not the ink- July 1, 2013
The printer I have works great but the replacement ink cost is too high for how long they last. I compare the price against other brother products and other manufacturers and this is one of the highest costs for ink. The printer does not allow grayscale printing if any of the color cartridges is empty which forces more cartridge costs. I would not buy a brother printer again if it has this feature blocking.

The Brother Ink dries quickly and has good color. If it weren't for the printer using so much during it's regular automatic cleaning cycles on a weekly basis, it would last much longer. However, it is usually available when I'm in need of refills, and the color combo pack is a decent value nonetheless compared to other brands that make you pay as much per color.

Ink works fine. Brother printers have an annoying habit of "cleaning" themselves periodically, which uses a little ink each time. Also, when the printer stops working because the cartridge is "empty," covering the clear plastic tube at the back of the cartridge with a little piece of black tape will get you quite a lot more pages of printing
