The Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM Lens is a compact pancake-style wide-angle prime designed to provide everyday versatility without adding unnecessary size or weight to a Canon RF-mount mirrorless camera. Designed for full-frame cameras, its classic 28mm field of view is well suited to travel, street photography, walkaround shooting, environmental subjects, and video. When mounted on an APS-C camera, it provides an approximately 45mm-equivalent perspective for a more natural field of view. The bright f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits available-light photography while offering useful control over depth of field and helping maintain the lens's remarkably slim profile. Its optical design incorporates three aspherical elements to control distortion and promote a high degree of sharpness, while Canon's Super Spectra Coating minimizes flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity in strong lighting conditions. A gear-type STM motor delivers fast, quiet, smooth, and accurate autofocus performance for both still photography and video recording. The lens also provides a 9.1" minimum focusing distance and 0.17x maximum magnification for photographing nearby subjects while retaining environmental context. A configurable Control Ring can be assigned to aperture, ISO, or exposure compensation for convenient adjustment directly from the lens, and a seven-blade diaphragm contributes to pleasing bokeh. Combining a versatile 28mm perspective, bright f/2.8 aperture, capable optics, close focusing, and an exceptionally portable pancake design, the RF 28mm f/2.8 STM is an ideal everyday prime for photographers and creators looking to keep their full-frame RF system compact and ready to shoot.
