Advanced L-Series Optics

A rectilinear optical design incorporates one Super UD element, three standard UD elements, and three aspherical elements, effectively reducing chromatic aberration and distortion across the zoom range. It ensures consistent edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination.

The ASC (Air Sphere Coating) and SWC (Subwavelength Structure Coating) work together to minimize flare, ghosting, and other optical aberrations, enhancing contrast and color accuracy.

FLC fluorine coating is applied to the lens's surface, making it resistant to dust, water droplets, grease, and dirt. It can be easily cleaned even when contaminants adhere to the lens surface. This coating is durable and anti-reflective, contributing to the capture of clear images.

Fast Autofocus and Image Stabilization

The fast and precise autofocus system ensures quick and nearly silent autofocus performance, with full-time manual focus override for precise control.

The high-speed STM leadscrew-type focus drive system is particularly beneficial for video users.

An Optical Image Stabilizer minimizes camera shake by up to five stops, facilitating low-light shooting and slower shutter speeds. When used with an EOS R-series camera featuring In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the Coordinated IS system offers up to six stops of stabilization.

The minimum focusing distance is just under 10 inches at all focal lengths, enabling unique ultra-wide close-up shots.

Handling and Design

The configurable Control Ring allows adjustments to various exposure settings, such as aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.

A nine-blade diaphragm creates a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality in your images.

The lens accepts rear insert-type gelatin filters, which can be cut-to-size and inserted behind the rear lens element.
