Eight-disc set includes: Fear And Desire (1953)Stanley Kubrick's feature directing bow came with this once-thought-lost, little-seen indie that tracks the travails of a quartet of soldiers crash-landed deep within hostile territory. Their bid to make their way to safety is compromised by a local woman's stumbling upon their presence, as well as their discovery of an enemy general's nearby encampment. Grim allegory stars Paul Mazursky, Virginia Leith, Frank Silvera, Kenneth Harp, Stephen Coit. Theatrical version; 61 min./Premiere version; 70 min. BW/Rtg: NR Killer's Kiss (1955)Writer/director Stanley Kubrick's gritty, atmospheric story focuses on boxer Davey Gordon (Jamie Smith) as he tries to save the woman he loves-dancer Gloria Price (Irene Kane)-from sadistic nightclub owner Vinnie Rapallo (Frank Silvera), who sends his thugs after Gordon while he holds Gloria hostage. The film, which was the inspiration for 1983's "Strangers Kiss," also stars Jerry Jarrett, Mike Dana. 67 min. BW/Rtg: NR The ** (1956)Classic caper drama that established director Stanley Kubrick has Sterling Hayden assembling a motley crew to knock off a racetrack. Kubrick's tight, claustrophobic camera work (done in part to hide the film's shoestring budget) and fine supporting turns by Elisha Cook Jr., Ted de Corsia, Marie Windsor, and Timothy Carey make this a film noir favorite. 84 min. Also includes the bonus feature "Killer's Kiss" (1955). BW/Rtg: NR Paths Of Glory (1957)Stanley Kubrick's gut-wrenching anti-war drama stars Kirk Douglas as individualistic French World War I officer Colonel Dax, who volunteers to defend three of his own men facing trial for cowardice when an ill-advised "suicide mission" conceived by a feckless commanding officer (Adolphe Menjou) and an opportunistic general (George Macready) fails. Ralph Meeker, Joseph Turkel, Timothy Carey also star; co-written by Kubrick and Jim Thompson. 88 min. BW/Rtg: NR Standard/Widescreen; Soundtrack: English LPCM mono; Subtitles: English (SDH); audio commentary; documentary; featurettes; interviews; theatrical trailers; bonus short "The Seafarers" (1953); 100-page hardcover booklet.
