What customers are saying

The game is praised as a fun, challenging platformer that captures the classic Donkey Kong experience with modern graphics and gameplay. Reviewers highlight the nostalgic appeal, solid platforming, and cooperative multiplayer as key strengths. However, some note the game may not quite live up to previous titles and express minor criticisms about the difficulty and controls. Overall, the game is highly recommended as an engaging and visually impressive entry in the Donkey Kong franchise.

    Best 2D platformer in generations

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - July 15, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tend to think that Nintendo platformers are in a league of their own, and that the newer (post-Gamecube) versions have not lived up to the heights of the 90s Nintendo hits. Tropical Freeze (which I missed on Wii U) is the best Nintendo 2D platformer (and therefore the best in the genre) since the 90s, either Yoshi’s Island or DKC2 depending on your taste, because of the inventive and challenging level design. Definitely a big step up from its predecessor, DKC Returns (originally on Wii). If you have a Switch, love 90s Nintendo 2D platformers, and haven’t played this yet, you should absolutely check it out.

    Great Game

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - November 9, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Probably one of the better DKs I played. Platforming is solid, but not being able to use Diddy or Dixie alone kinda bothered me. Beating the game won't take long at all, but trying to find the secrets along with no guide probably will. Also not sure if it was just me, but there was a weird stutter during the loading screens for the games. Also in general the loading was too long. For an enhanced port, it was honestly annoying. Especially since its still 60. Solid game, would recommend on sale for sure.

Very fun game... for those that don't own the WiiU

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - June 21, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you have this game on Wii U the only difference seems to be an "easy" mode in the form of playable character Funky Kong. I never had the Wii U version so I dug the game. I'm a big fan of the 90's Donkey Kong Country games and this is a nice reimagining of the classic series. Even with Funky Kong the game is a challenge!

Not the DKC of yesteryear, but that's OK!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - August 19, 2023

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The SNES Donkey Kong Country games were probably my absolute favorite games growing up, so it would be tough to top them in my opinion. This is a very good game, but to me it doesn't quite capture the feel of the original series. Still, it's a very solid platformer worthy of your Switch collection.

    Classic Donkey Kong

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - April 10, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a very addictive game! It has all of the classic Donkey Kong elements that you expect and you have a wide range of characters to choose from right from the start. Great for all ages, especially with the addition of Funky Kong.

    Side scrolling at its best

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - April 17, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If your into side scrolling games... and if you grew up in the 80's, I know you are, you will love DonkeyKong Country. DK and his family jam throughout this jam packed journey while avoiding too many baddies. Worth the play!

    Fun but hard

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - August 24, 2023

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This game was a lot harder than I expected. Or maybe I am just not that good. Nonetheless, it is a fun game to play and I am glad there is an option out there to peek my interest in my favorite Nintendo character.

    Not bad

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - October 21, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Fun game to play and isn’t super difficult. Donkey Kong has never been my favorite Nintendo game but I don’t mind this one. Graphics are good and easy enough to play in the handheld version of on the tv.

    Donkey Going Downhill?

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - May 9, 2023

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pretty disappointing overall. It has good music and scenery, but the level design, controls, and world navigation are all poor. It doesn't seem like there was much thought put into making this game.

    Good side scroller adventure game

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - April 12, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was a fan of DKC on SNES (did not have Wii, nor Wii U), so was very happy to buy this version on sale for Switch. Will try with my 4.5 year old during this coronavirus pandemic at some point.
