What customers are saying

The product performs its core function of converting digital audio signals to analog well, allowing users to connect modern devices to legacy sound systems. Most customers report it is easy to set up and use, and appreciate how it enables them to continue using older audio equipment. The sound quality is generally good, though a few note a slight loss in fidelity. While most are highly satisfied, a small number report occasional issues like the converter randomly cutting out or needing troubleshooting to get the optimal setup.

Works for TV going to old receiver and speakers

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - May 2, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This worked amazingly with my dad's old AV receiver (no digital inputs) to the TV. Converts all digital to analog flawlessly. No issues with sound and seems to convert at 24/192khz bit rate.

Be sure audio source is set to PCM!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - December 3, 2022

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Took one star away because the instructions don't mention the fact this DOESN'T work on all optical audio settings. You have to manually go into your TV (or wherever the audio is coming from, and in my case a TV) and be sure to set the optical audio to PCM. Mine was on auto and that wasn't working. All I was hearing was a super fast ticking noise. Everything is working good now that I set it to PCM. I have an LG tv & wasn't able to find the PCM setting under 'sound'. I had to scroll down to 'all settings' then click on 'sound' once again... Just a long drawn way to get to where I needed to be.

    Works Great

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - February 24, 2018

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had no way to get sound to my Bluetooth speakers from the older model TV I have, but with just the digital optical output, I was able to hook up sound and Music for my television

    EXCELLENT CONVERTER

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - June 8, 2018

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Recently got a steal with a half-priced Bose stereo. The only problem was, the stereo was designed for audio/mp3 playback, and not TVs. After doing some research I came upon a suggestion to convert optical digital output from my tv into this type of converter, and then convert the RCA inputs into one single 3.5mm plug. After a little fine-tuning with my TV's audio settings I was able to have this bad boy up and running. Even with the multiple conversions taking place, the sound is crystal clear and booms throughout the room. The converter provided the fix I needed while only sacrificing very little of the original sound quality. A++++++++

    Little box requires tech savvy

    Reviewed by - May 13, 2023

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The market is flooded with these little boxes that convert digital audio to analog audio. The trick is that they don't work with the newer Dolby digital audio format (a compressed format). They only work with the earlier PCM digital format (an uncompressed format). If you cannot switch your device to output PCM digital audio, then then little box will be useless, Dolby digital audio unpacks into five separate audio streams plus a low frequency stream to simulate explosions and things like that. So if you want that "surround sound" experience, then you need a device that will decode the Dolby 5.1 format. This little box just provides stereo sound.

cannot get any sound, only fuzz

    Reviewed by - April 6, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this product to connect a brand new television that only has digital optical out to my older stereo receiver that only has component/RCA in. The connections are very self explanatory and yet I cannot seem to achieve any type of clear sound at all...even when my television is off and its sound settings are set to TV speakers out...I'm still getting fuzz. This tells me that there is not any sound being transmitted from the television to the stereo and yet there is some sort of connection because there is fuzz coming out still and not complete radio silence. Insignia if you're out there.....let me know what you think and what I should do.

    Works As Expected- Crisis Avoided

    Reviewed by - December 12, 2015

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Recently bought a fantastic LG 55 in. 4K HD television, not even expecting to open it and find it only has Optical and HDMI out ports for sound. I really did not want to replace a $500 Polk Audio Sound Bar and Sub simply because it only has RCA "in" connections. This adapter works as advertised. No loose connections as reviewed by some others. My adapter worked right out of the box....as long as you don't count the twenty minutes or so I stood there trying to figure out that I needed the switch (on the side) set to "optical" because that's the cable I had. Just really relieved that I only had to spend under $40 and NOT another $400.

    Didn't work

    Reviewed by - April 16, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased this item. Hooked it up to my new 65 Samsung TV and to my receiver. Changed all the settings on the TV (have to change the sound output to Audio Out/Optical and the Digital Output Audio to PCM under expert Settings) and tested it with my DVD player and Smart TV. Worked fine. Even watched a movie on DVD that evening. Next evening tried to use it. Changed the settings on the TV and absolute silence. Disconnected it completely and reconnected it and it worked again. The next evening went to watch Game of Thrones, turned everything on, made settings changes on TV and complete silence again. Disconnected it, packaged it up and returned it to the store.

    Great buy

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - January 9, 2024

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very quick, very easy. Set up of my old system, disconnected the digital equipment and turned it on in 20 minutes. I used the optic cable running from my TV to the surround sound receiver (that's going out. That's why I decided to resurrect my old system). Unplugged at the SS and plugged it into the converter box optical input. Plugged the converter into my old amp with the supplied cable and BOOM! I have full, rich old school sound! MUCH cheaper than replacing the SS receiver and with better sound and control to boot. Audio is sync'd to the video perfectly without any delays. One day down, hoping it lasts a long time.
