MONKEY DUEL Board Game

Monkey Duel is a two player strategy game. The objective of the game is to accumulate points by leaping one’s monkeys from bamboo stalk to bamboo stalk across the board. Monkeys reaching the opponent’s side of the board score points. Knocking opposing monkeys off the board also scores points.

Players take turns rolling dice (and sometimes swap them) in order to bring new monkeys onto the board, move their monkeys, or throw coconuts at opposing monkeys. Monkeys move in one of two ways, either climbing directly up their current bamboo stalk, or leaping to the next one while dropping down one or more spaces in the process.

The Story

Truth be told, life in the jungle had never been easy for a monkey, but some years seemed harder than others. When food was scarce and predators seemed to lurk behind every tree, it was easy to feel nostalgic and wonder where better times had gone.

One particularly tough year, the great ape King Con decided that something needed to be done. He unleashed a mighty bellow, calling a meeting of all the orange monkeys who inhabited the jungle’s western regions. He told them that it was time to make the jungle great again, and that he alone had the power to do it. The monkeys cheered their new leader.

The trouble was… well, quite frankly King Con wasn’t actually sure what the trouble was. But he was sure that it had something to do with his archrival King Fu of the eastern jungle and his small tribe of grey monkeys.

Things were not so great on the east side of the jungle either, but King Fu felt he had matters under control. Or could have them under control, if not for the constant bellowing and chest-thumping of his western neighbor, all of which was driving him to distraction.

Tensions mounted until a confrontation was inevitable, but neither King Con nor King Fu was much inclined to dirty his fur in a one-on-one battle. No, war was a job for lesser primates. And so, the monkeys – orange and grey alike – were called together at the bamboo grove which had been chosen as the battlefield. Each was given the same task: Cross the grove at any cost, and give the enemy a taste of coconut.
