What customers are saying

The game offers a comprehensive and challenging Monster Hunter experience with a vast roster of monsters to hunt, a wide variety of weapons and armor to craft, and an immense amount of gameplay hours. Reviewers praise the deep combat system, rewarding progression, and satisfying loop of hunting, gathering, and crafting. The game is noted for its impressive scale, with hundreds of unique monsters and gear to discover, as well as high levels of customization and replayability. However, the game is more complex and less accessible than the newer Monster Hunter World, with a steep learning curve that may be challenging for newcomers. The graphics, while improved, are not as polished as the latest installments in the series.

    The MHGU experience.

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - December 28, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great game if you are ok with grinding. Like all monster hunter games, the goal is collecting weapons and armor to fight even harder monsters. This game has hundreds if not thousands of hours of content to complete. I imported my saved file from Monster Hunter Generations so that I didn't have to start from low rank again. I've already put 50 hours into the game and I've enjoyed every second of it. I highly recommend getting a Nintendo Switch Online subscription as well, since hunting alone can be lonely at times. The game itself was delayed twice due to bad weather. Other than this, everything was satisfactory.

A Lot of Bang for your Buck

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - August 22, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Maybe not as pretty and flashy as Monster Hunter World (because it's a remastered port of a 3DS game), Generations Ultimate offers FAR more content than World in terms of sheer content. There are more monsters to hunt, which is the hook of the game to begin with, but if you're coming to MonHunGenUlt from MonHunWorld it's best to set your expectations accordingly. It's not as streamlined or user friendly and the first 10 hours or so does take a lot of getting used to, but it really is the perfect game to play on the go. It performs great, the community is active, and for the current price ($30 as of the time of this review) you can easily squeeze HUNDREDS of hours out of it.

    Nice Upgrade

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - March 9, 2022

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been playing the 3DS version for a while now. I was very pleased to find out I could transfer my 3DS data to the Switch via the utility available on the Eshop. However, this is an upgraded version, so data cannot be transferred backwards to the 3DS. That having been said: This is an upgraded version of the 3DS game. There are more monsters, more quests, and more gear. It seems a bit clunky, but this came out BEFORE MH World and so some of the mechanics aren't the greatest. It's fun, though, and entertaining. There aren't many players anymore for multiplayer. This isn't an issue because I like to play solo anyway. This was a good deal and a good addition to my collection, esp. for the price.

    Great game for teens

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - February 1, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My grandsons are very particular about the games they want to play. They study game reviews, and have a number of devices for gaming. After considerable study, they chose this Monster Hunter game for the Nintendo Switch. Monster Hunter has not disappointed!!! They have been thrilled with their new game.Although they spend most of their free time enjoying activities with the entire family, when they get into game mode, we let them play. Now they want to spend every extra moment playing Monster Hunter!!! I would recommend this came for any kid, especially those in their teens!

    Classic Monster Hunter Fun

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - December 20, 2018

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you are a fan of the old school type of MH you are in for a treat. This is a beefed up version of the 3ds monster hunger. But it plays amazing on the switch. You will spend hours collecting everything.

    Best Old School MonHun

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - September 21, 2018

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a longtime Monster Hunter fan I was looking forward to a US version of MHXX. Much to my glee Capcom localized it as Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. Coming off of World I won't deny the QoL that World had was good and I missed it, but GenU has the best content thus far. Monsters, Armor, Weapons, this game is a blast, and despite the lack of improvements (which I won't fault it for as it TECHNICALLY came out before World) I find myself sinking just as much time into it as I have all the others. Highly recommended for oldschool and new hunters alike.

Difficult to learn, easy to master, new game+

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - September 21, 2018

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First off, if you have played Generations on the 3DS, I'd recommend starting fresh. If you wanna rush into G-rank, power to ya, I know I did. However, that's leaving 2/3 of a 60$ game unplayed. Now then, Monster Hunter as a whole is a bit difficult to learn, tutorials are present but not as helpful, and there's almost no information about monsters' weakness and your skills. The game takes a bit to learn about but once you've learned it, you got it, and then it's off to the races. Secondly, this is NOT Monster Hunter World. It's a pre-World remake, it's not comparable to World, it's the tryhard strategy game to World's adventure game. Sick of hearing that. Anyway, grab the game, and you'll be loathing the Valstrax in no time.

Great experience for a great franchise!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - September 6, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This game is just as good as the previous monster hunter titles I have played. Now I can play on the big screen or like before wander around with it in hand-held form. It's a bit tricky to master at first but the tutorials are a great help in learning the rhythm of the game and learning what weapon you're best at. I haven't played since 3 Ultimate but it feels like riding a bike. You never really forget and the combos still work! A great find for any monster hunter fan or for someone looking to go carve up some crazy monsters and have fun while doing it!

    Hundreds of hours of fun!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - April 8, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This game is the perfect extension to Monster Hunter Generations if you played it on 3DS and the save files even transfer too. There's 15 different weapon types each with a deep and varied moveset plus there's four different styles and hunter arts to mix in too so an absurd amount of gameplay variety. This game also has the largest amount of monsters out of any Monster Hunter game too. Playing through the regular story could easily reach 100+ hours plus several times more content after that, and loads of quests for both solo and multiplayer options.

Review from a first time player to the series

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - November 16, 2018

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After ignoring this franchise for so long, I decided to pick this up based on how much praise Monster Hunter World is getting. MHGU is a definitive port of the Nintendo 3DS game: Monster Hunter generations. This game adds some tweaks and quality of life updates to the game, but it's still not as accessible as Monster Hunter World. This game takes some time to get used to, but once you have a grasp of it it's very rewarding. The game has tons of game play styles, and offers so many different varieties of monsters to hunt that it's hard not to get addicted. If you've never been a fan of this game franchise, I highly recommend picking this up! And it's even more fun with a group of friends (Online compatible with up to 3 other players!)
