Another part of her longs for a life of sanctity and purity, that only a life with God can bring. This angers Alex, who wants all her attention and affections for himself. After a terrible accident occurs at one of their fancy parties, while Alex is in a drunken state, things come into focus for Elise. Desperate to get away, she flees to a convent in France to hide from Alex. Distraught over Elise leaving him, Alex hires agents to find her and bring her back to him.
