Sonos Android software is a buggy mess for controlling these

    Reviewed by - July 6, 2023

The state of the Google Play app is atrocious and has been for more than a year. You can look there at the recent reviews and decide if this company is focusing on creating a great experience or just ignoring the reality. I have invested thousands in Sonos and regret it given how bad the app experience is. They clearly ignore the app store reviews once you made the purchase, so I think it's important to review the hardware I bought so consumers know what they are in for. There is no way to interact with these devices without their shoddy apps. I own a beam, multiple amps, outdoor speakers, in ceiling speakers, and a shelf speaker. Be forewarned.

    Perfectly camouflaged!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We are in the middle of a remodel. Still have a bit to go but decided to get the system installed now. The Sonos in ceiling speakers disappear into the ceiling. No sound distortion and excellent sound, soft listening and even at high volume. Very happy with this purchase and the installation. So far so good!

Product is probably ok - but ceiling mounted speakers?

    Reviewed by - October 31, 2019

The ceiling mounting is fine and the sound probably compares well with other ceiling mounted speakers as they do not have a solid base on which to fix. At this price, I am used to speakers on stands that are much, much better. I don't think it is necessarily the speakers that spoil the sound, more the ceiling mount. Also, music quality on broadband streams is inferior in quality so I have no doubt that that is adding to the slightly muffled and less engaging sound. I have yet to play from any HiFi system to test this effect. Finally, the manual says these architectural speakers can be tuned. They cannot. So, if ground space is limited, or ceiling mounts are a must, these speakers will do, but I am disappointed with the combined ceiling mount and streamed music quality.

Sounds Great with My Morning Tea!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - October 25, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We recently remodeled our kitchen and put a stereo pair of these speakers in the ceiling about 6 feet apart (per Sonos guidelines), centered on the main prep area. They are powered by the new Sonos amp using 14 gauge in-wall speaker wire. The sound is very good for in-ceiling speakers with a nice range of tones and plenty of power and bass. They're no match for my stereo pair of Play 5's in the living room but that's expected, given the price. With all four speakers going, the first floor of our house is rockin'! The in-ceiling speakers are very discrete and blend in well, freeing up the countertop and shelves. My contractor had no problem installing the speakers and connecting the wires in the attic as they come with hole templates and mounting levers. I would highly recommend these speakers!

    Not worth it

    Reviewed by - October 17, 2024

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently purchased the Sonos ceiling speakers, expecting top-notch sound quality for the price. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The sound quality is comparable to what you might get from an Apple HomePod, it doesn’t stand out as anything exceptional. A bigger issue for me is how the sound travels—because the speakers are mounted in the ceiling, the audio carries upstairs into other rooms, making it feel like the speaker is in the room above. This has been quite disruptive in our home and makes the system unusable. I would also recommend prospective buyers think about their options carefully. Since these speakers are mounted, they are not easily returned or swapped out if you end up disliking the product. Overall, I can’t say I’d recommend them, especially given the price and hassle involved.

Sounds great but too much (bass) leakage to floor above

    Reviewed by - October 21, 2021

Using 6 in-ceiling speakers with 2 Sonos Amps across 2 rooms. The sound coming from these speakers is fantastic at all volumes with a lovely rich, clear and warm sound especially after TruePlay tuning. Major issue is leakage of bass in floor above speakers. If anyone is in rooms above it's essentially impractical to play speakers above a low volume. Would like to see more work to reduce leakage above speakers.

    Good Idea, Some Limitations

    Reviewed by - August 21, 2021

A house I bought came with 3 rooms with a pair of in-ceiling speakers each. Easy enough to work out how to setup and connect to my phone. Was great when we could stream Spotify to it, now i can't since I switched to YouTube Music. The Sonos app lets me play YouTube Music, but I can't natively cast from the YouTube Music app (probably Google's fault for not updating the app).
