Nifty 50
- 7 août 2023[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you are looking to buy a first prime lens for your kit, this is a great place to start. I bought this lens first before buying the 18-105mm f4 G zoom lens and still keep this lens in my rotation paired with the a6400. Chromatic aberration is definitely present between f1.8-f3 around sharply contrasting edges but gets better beyond that. It's a $300 lens so you cannot expect it to be as sharp as a Zeiss, but the quality of images it produces is still stunning. Really nice bokeh. When this lens was initially released, many users were unhappy with the slow autofocus, however firmware upgrades have improved this greatly. I still find that it is not fast enough to shoot sports, or anything fast paced. The autofocus makes a bit of noise so if you need your lens to be very quiet, this is not for you. It's not internally stabilized, so do not expect to use this for video unless you are using a gimbal or tripod. I mainly use this lens for portraits and low light. Taking into account the limitations, it is still a great lens and worth purchasing.

My new nifty 50. The Sony 50mm f1.8 oss
- 13 février 2021My new favourite prime. Sony 50mm f1.8 oss I like to film footage of different angles, product, backdrops and lighting to try and explore new ideas and with the lens it adds a whole new dimension. It is affordable and solid in the hand. Build quality is good and the bokeh is great for its price. I recommend this lens to anyone as your getting a great prime that makes your portraits pop and gives your videos more definition and great dynamic range considering this is built for Sony’s range of crop sensor cameras.

Amazing!
- 11 mai 2010for the past 3 months I had been on the tip of the iceberg deciding whether or not I wanted to purchase this glass. Once I saw it go on sale, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try it out! I have to admit I am impressed. I have been using a 18-200mm zoom lens for all my shots, becuase I thought it'd make a great all around lens. It is, but this lens completely blows image quality comparison out of the water. with the examples I have, I rarely ever see myself changing lens anytime soon. I've been using this lens with a bounce flash and takes the pictures to a new level. I have had no regrets with this purchase and I recommend it to anyone who take pictures of people mainly

Best lens for price!
- 19 février 2021[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This lens is amazing!!!! I have been doing more portraits recently and this is the lens to go with. For the price, you cant find much better than this lens. The bokeh is very smooth and lowlight conditions look amazing. My only complaint is that you can not zoom in or out so it can be annoying to move back and forth, but at the same time its worth the price. I dont mind moving a couple feet back to save a couple hundred bucks.

Amazing!
- 24 avril 2015For me this is an essential les for all owners of an e mount compatible camera. Stunning clarity and stabilisation. You will also get amazing depth of field and the lens delivers silent focusing at all times. the best 50mm in terms of pricing and features. Very lovely in its construction and design, feels very sturdy and will last forever. The included lens hood is also a nice bonus.

Fantastic Lens
- 10 juin 2013After buying the NEX-5N I was told by many photographer friends to get a fast fixed lens. I was happy to find out that this lens was well-reviewed and a great value so I decided to buy it. No regrets! I have had this for some months and after getting used to it I am able to take some amazing shots with great clarity. The bokeh is also of very high quality and is the most enjoyable aspect for me. The fast fstop allows great portraits as well. The construction is solid and the focus ring is smooth. A definite must have for any photographer.

NEX essential
- 4 avril 2013I read reviews explaining this was a great lens, but I was now prepared for how great. I've had it for 4 months, and it is a dream to work with. The images look great even wide open, and I love the bokeh effect. The focus ring is very smooth which makes it extremely easy to get your tiny depth of field right where you want it manually. If you use the NEX camera you simply have to buy this lens (why else would you buy it?). The only drawback is the lack of any indicator as to where your depth of field is on the lens. That would have been nice, but as stated it's not hard be accurate with just your eye or the peaking function. At $300 this is almost a steal.

New SAM lenses are really a step up!!
- 10 mai 2010This lens really is an exceptional lens! I bought it while it was on sale this past month and the 1st day I got it I used it for an event I had that evening as a primary lens. I certainly was thrilled by the crisp quality of this lens. For the price you would think it wasn't a good piece of glass but for the price, you're getting a powerful lens that's very crisp and precise. The wide aperture is wonderful for low light situations and certainly is a lens you should have in your bag!! This lens is a must and to have a couple of older lenses before Sony came out with the SAM motor lenses, I can see they've done their homework and produced lenses that are near Carl Zeiss quality and G lens quality!! Thanks Sony for listening to your consumers requests!!

1.4 vs 1.8....Chose to keep the 1.8
- 27 septembre 2010Very impressed...for the money you can't lose. I wanted to compare the 1.4 vs the 1.8 because I couldn't choose...so I bought both...took shots with low light, also bokeh shots. I honestly didnt' see a difference...I attached some test shots...I returned the 1.4 without hesitation...and kept the 1.8. If you want better build qualtiy and maybe a little little bit faster shutter speed in lowlight..then go for the 1.4, but save money and get the 1.4 because its ALMOST the same minus the build quality and a few hardly noticable diff.
