Key Considerations

Averages based on how reviewers feel this product performs.

Ease of Use:

What customers are saying

The USB to VGA adapter is generally well-received, with users praising its ease of use and ability to extend their workspace across multiple monitors. It is reported to be "plug and play" and enables users to be more productive by having additional screens. However, some users have experienced limitations with the maximum resolution and refresh rate, resulting in a slightly lower quality image. While the majority of customers are satisfied, a few have reported compatibility issues, particularly with certain software or when waking the computer from sleep mode. Overall, the adapter appears to be a good value option for basic productivity tasks, though users should be aware of the potential limitations.

Works great, easy to use but has limitations

    Reviewed by - 29 septembre 2013

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This device is great and works flawlessly, but I set it up for a client who uses (2) 27" monitors connected to his laptop. The native resolution of the monitors is 1920x1080 but the maximum resolution of this cable is 1600x1200 so the monitors have to run at a lower resolution which causes them to look a little distorted when compared to the native 1920x1080 monitors right next to it. Also, because of the refresh rate on the device you cannot watch movies, YouTube videos etc on monitors connected to this devices without the video flickering A LOT. These devices are great for static displays or displays which are not updated as frequently as a video image.

    Crashed my Computer

    Reviewed by - 19 janvier 2014

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought a new HP Laptop and purchased the adapter to use an external monitor. I loaded the drivers as directed from the manual. I restarted my computer as directed by the software and that is when the trouble started. The computer would not restart, no video, no nothing. Contacted Tech Support and 3 days later they returned my call. They told me to reload drivers from website. I again told them I had no video. She suggested I load it on another computer to see if I get the same problem. I told her I was not interested in having two computers in the shop. Waited too long to return to BB so I threw adapter in trash.

    Good but not great

    Reviewed by - 23 janvier 2017

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Installation pretty easy but won't adapt to higher resolution monitors. Highest I could get it was 1680x1050. (I think it defaulted to 1600x900.) My monitor calls for 1920x1080 so the picture is slightly blurred, pages are slightly larger, and the page "swims" when dragged from the VGA screen to adapter screen side. It's viewable, just annoying. I use it for a business monitor but if you're a gamer, I wouldn't get this model unless your screen resolution is lower. Their Tech Support suggested a more expensive model (USB2VGATRO2).

Don't bother with it, buy another brand.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this USB to VGA adapter to use for work for a 3rd monitor 3 days ago. After attaching it and installing drivers it worked fin, initially. I went to lock my PC and when I unlocked it the unit reset the resolution and set itself for mirrored mode. I updated the drivers to the latest ones from the website. Worked fine at first (again) until the screen saver came on or I locked the PC and unlocked it again... it would then flicker and move EVERYTHING off of that monitor. Fine I can live with that I suppose... I just won't put icons or windows or THE START/TASKBAR ON IT AT ALL when I lock it up or move them back when I need them. Today (3 days later) is stopped working entirely. I'm done with it. It never worked like it was supposed to and then broke 3 days into use. This is not a good product.

    Good image quality

    Reviewed by - 15 juin 2020

Hi! I'm currently working with a laptop running Windows 7. I use the laptop's screen and an aditional external monitor hooked up via VGA cable and it works perfectly. I now added the USB to VGA adapter and the image I got on the third screen is very detailed, very good. Althought all I got was the option to duplicate one of my two pre-existing screens onto this third monitor. How do I get the USB to VGA adpater to expand my workspace onto the third monitor? Thanks

    Great Product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Products works great, Bought this for my home office to get the use of a third monitor. I have recommended this to many users that want to have a third monitor but want to keep costs low. Normally, I recommend using the monitor attached to this device for something like Email, or something that doesn't have a great refresh rate. Playing YouTube videos through this adapter are slightly choppy, viewable but not the best. Overall, very satisfied with this product.

My computer tech guy said it couldn't be done, said you could not connect a second monitor to my USB 2.0 port, after trying one purchased online from China. Well, this StarTech adapter proved him wrong! Setup was simple, and my second monitor works great! It was very easy to shop for it on the StarTech website...excellent descriptions of your items and their capabilities.
