Grey Cribs

Shake up the nursery with a grey crib

How do you choose the right crib for your nursery?

Choosing a crib is an exciting process, but you want to get the perfect one for the nursery. Most cribs are a standard size, but it's always a good idea to measure the room. If it's especially small, there are mini cribs that you might want to look into so the room can accommodate other nursery furniture, like a glider and change table.

Typically made of pine or poplar wood with non-toxic and lead-free paint, grey cribs come in a variety of styles and are typically easy to assemble. Some have a higher back, great if the crib will be pushed against a wall, while others have same-size rails all around, perfect for cribs situated in the centre of the nursery. Mattress positions are adjustable from two up to four positions, depending on the crib.

Convertible 4-in-1 or 6-in-1 cribs can transform to a toddler bed, day bed, and full bed, the latter also to a sofa. This lets you continue to use them well into the toddler years.

What do you need to know about buying grey cribs?

While white or brown are popular crib colours, why not shake things up with a cool shade of grey? There are a few things to keep in mind before choosing a stylish grey crib to liven up the nursery. Colours include standard grey, light, dark, and even vintage grey that exudes a traditional, rustic look.

Keep in mind that even with convertible grey cribs, you will need conversion kits to transform the crib to a full bed. Convertible cribs are smart investments since you can use them for several years and to test the waters with a daybed before moving the child to a twin or double.

The height of the crib should allow for you to comfortably lift baby in and out at even the lowest mattress height, an especially important consideration for those who are shorter than average.

Do the cribs come with accessories?

Cribs usually don't come with additional accessories like bedding, and you will have to buy a mattress separately. Make sure to check that the crib accommodates a standard mattress size. Jot down the dimensions just in case so you pick one that will not only fit but will fit snugly with no gaps between the rails and the mattress.

Some grey baby cribs do come with neat features, if not accessories, like built-in drawers at the bottom for storing linens, diapers, clothing, or other small items.

If you opt for a convertible crib, as noted, check what items you would need to purchase in order to convert the crib once your baby has grown to a toddler; it might be worthwhile to get those, too. These accessories might include a metal bed frame and/or guardrail. Check the manual to find out what you would need.
