Based on a 1938 play, the first filmed adaptation was 1941's "Here Comes Mr. Jordan." In this version, Pendleton learns his presence in heaven was a mistake and that he cannot return to his original body because his boxing manager had him cremated. The challenge is to now find a new body for him to inhabit, who will look like the person whose body he inhabits but only with Pendleton's memories.
