What customers are saying

The PlayStation 5 Media Remote offers mixed performance. Some users find it convenient for controlling media and saving controller battery life, while others report issues with inconsistent responsiveness, poor build quality, and limited functionality. The remote lacks important features like dedicated TV input buttons and customizable app shortcuts, and the lack of backlighting can be problematic in low-light conditions. Overall, the remote may be a useful addition for some users, but the reliability and quality concerns mean it may not be worth the investment for everyone.

    Working As Intended

My personal experience has been excellent. Bought this remote to make usage easier for my non-tech family (seeing as the PS5 has replaced the majority of our media devices). The device was simple enough to connect - navigate to settings > media remote > pair, and then hit the PS5 button. The system was connected to the TV so it asked me if I wanted to auto sync some universal features (volume control, mute, etc) so I said yes and bing-bang-boom it was an all in one remote right there. Connection is strong, navigation is easy, my retirement aged dad gets to watch netflix and amazon prime video with ease. Worth.

    Seems Useless, yet worth it.

In the past, I hated using the base controller to watch movies because I wasn’t used to what controls what, then I had to figure it out, look at the instructions, forget all of that. Why not go for a simplified way for accessing media? Using the powerful media remote.

    Good but could be better

    Reviewed by Simon - June 5, 2021

It's a good little remote that does what it is supposed to do. A couple of complaints though: - No backlightning whatsoever... so not ideal to use in pitch black - The bottom being round makes it spin on itself when layed on a table or other hard surface. I wish there would be a flat bottom perhaps with feet or something

    Works Beautifully

    Reviewed by Shahrooz - July 19, 2021

The Playstation 5 media remote works as intended with my Playstation 5 console after pairing the remote in the Settings, and it is very easy to use. If you want to use your Playstation 5 like a Smart TV with the video game console's supported video streaming services, you can do exactly that with this official Sony branded Playstation 5 product. I highly do recommend this product.

    Ridiculous

    Reviewed by Pac - December 5, 2020

This is an egregiously low quality product by Sony that is completely out of place with the PS5. Quite possibly the worst $40 I have ever spent. The color scheme is wrong. The front face of the device is a weird beige, so it doesn't match the color of the PS5 and its DualSense controller. The build quality is an absolute joke. The battery cover doesn't even fit properly and leaves a weird gap in the front. The eject button for the battery cover is nigh unusable. The plastic has marks from bad molding. The buttons are too far apart and feel like a cheap knockoff product. The remote also sits awkwardly in the hand. It's definitely uncomfortable to use. And to top it all off, the remote is also very slow, often skipping presses in the PlayStation UI and mashing several of them in a row after a delay. It's so bad, you might wonder whether your PS5 is lagging. All in all, this makes anything you do with the remote, from watching YouTube to browsing Netflix and Disney+ an unpleasant experience. Skip this and just use the DualSense.

    Looks Good, Lacks Function

    Reviewed by CanadianH3R0 - April 5, 2022

I love the look of the remote. It matches the style of the console nicely. My beef is with the lack of functionality. It will allow you to control the volume of your TV but not the volume of your surround sound system. The only way around this is to plug your stereo into the arc1 port of your tv and plug the ps5 into the surround sound system, but this decreases video quality of the console. With my Xbox, my remote can control my stereo volume no matter where stuff is plugged in.

    Good but not complete

Overall a very good modern remote control with minimalistic design. 2 things I'm missing though: TV Input button + one or two programmable buttons for most used apps other than the pre-programmed ones.

    PlayStation 5 Remote

Reviewed by Honest Chef - February 27, 2021

Honestly wasn’t expecting much from the first version of the PS5 remote, I mainly just purchased it to have a remote match my console. Plastic is cheap and I would save your money for the next version as this one just feels cheap and still relies on batteries to charge even though the PS5 is all micro USBC ports...

    great remote

Works great, saves your actual PS5 controller from everyday use when you're just using the PS5 as a media player or streaming service. The only negative I can think of is that you can't reprogram the preset application launch buttons to be anything but the ones it starts with. (Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, Youtube)

Works as advertised. Pairing with ps5 and my plasma tv was very fast on 1st attempt. Buttons all work perfect, no bugs at all. Easy to insert supplied batteries. Highly recommended if you play blurays or use streaming platforms often (Disney+ etc).
