The original iPad Air models have the same 9.7" Retina display as the earlier iPad 3rd Gen and iPad 4th Gen lines, but are "20 percent thinner and 28% lighter" and have a much narrower "bezel" around the display, which makes the iPad Air "feel" quite a bit smaller than its predecessors.

It is fully supported by iOS 8 with the notable exception of "Health" functionality. It is supported by iOS 9, but lacks support for the "Split View" interface feature. It is supported by iOS 10, although it does not support the Raise to Wake or Ride-Booking features. It is supported by iOS 11, but it does not support person-to-person payments or Apple Pay Cash nor does it support the minor "Appointment confirmation" feature.
