What customers are saying

The game offers a compelling and immersive strategy experience with deep gameplay, detailed graphics, and the ability to play on the go. The core appeal lies in the addictive and rewarding gameplay loop, where players must carefully manage resources, research new technologies, and expand their empire. The game provides a high degree of replayability with numerous civilizations and victory conditions. While the Switch version may not be as visually stunning as the PC counterpart, it still delivers a solid Civilization experience with well-adapted controls. However, the game does have some drawbacks, such as longer load times and occasional performance issues, especially in the late game stages.

    Very Good

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - 4 janvier 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you've played a Civilization game before you know what you're getting into. For those who haven't it's a very diplomatic Strategy game. You're building up your country and trying to win in a number of ways. That's just the brief way of describing the game. It's very good and I suggest picking this game up. Especially on the Switch the fact that you can play this game on the go makes it even better. You can get lost in this game for many hours without even knowing. The only problem I have is that when you're playing in handheld mode, the quality(resolution) of the game goes down. But it's kinda unavoidable with many games on the Switch.

    Excellent Strategy Game

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - 5 janvier 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm new to this series but but I do love strategy games and this game has had me curious for many years so I decided to give it a try once it was announced for the switch. The game plays really well and the Switch has no problem running the game. Its different from rts games and games like XCOM but it plays really well. You aim is to conquer as much of the map and decide how you intend to win the game either through science, religion, or domination. You start off as thousands of years ago and watch as your civilization becomes more advanced into the future. It is a long game but its very interesting. Recommend to anyone who love a good strategy game.

    Almost perfect

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - 30 octobre 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The game is great. Been a civ fan for as long as I can remember and it's an excellent addition to the franchise. Must get the expansion packs to really get everything this game offers. Took a few play throughs before I finally put away my lab top and civ 5 for good. Love the portability playing civ on switch brings as well. My only beef is the switch really struggles in the end games. Long wait times between turns, even with animations turned off. Missing some menus you get with the computer version (really miss the demographics information) but overall it's still civ and I still find myself playing just one more turn...

I’ve had lots of fun already

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - 12 juin 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had Civilization VI for the Switch for a little over a week now and can definitely say that it was worth the purchase. I’ve probably put about 20 hours into it (probably more if I wasn’t spending all my time playing Animal Crossing) and my only problem with the game is that the frame rate likes to drop once there is a lot going on and many different settlements in one area, but other than that I haven’t had any problems. This is my first time playing a Civ game but I have been interested in the series for a while and would definitely recommend the game to someone that is getting into the series for the first time.

    1st Time Civ Player

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - 22 mars 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my 1st experience with any Civ game, and I am enjoying myself! The controls are relatively straight forward on the Switch, but I have no comparison to computer. There is a learning curve for newbies, but the tutorial is helpful. The display looks great when I use my Switch as a hand-held console, but when I dock it and play on my TV, the left and right sides of the screen are outside of my actual TV screen. There is no way of manually increasing or decreasing the display length/width in the settings menu of the game, or having an "auto-fit to screen" option, so that's a little annoying.

    Good port with performance issues.

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - 30 août 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love Civilization 5. So when I heard this was coming out I had to get it. I played this on PC but I dropped off. It just wasn't the same as civ 5. But since I got the switch I've been yearning for Civilization on the handheld. And from the moment I installed and started playing it I was addicted. The portability of the switch is exactly what it needed. However once it gets the the midgame and beyond the framerate drops and there is an input delay. It's not game breaking since it's turn based but it was just annoying. This game is great on the switch regardless of those problems.

Good Game, but Too Slow for Switch

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - 8 janvier 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This would be a great game for PC or iPad but the fact that the average game is going to take draining the battery at least twice to me means it's too slow of a game. Also the amenities requirement is either broken or intentionally ridiculous. It takes so long to play that if you make mistakes early on you wasted a lot of time to lose in the end. But maybe I'm just bad at it and it's sour grapes! Very polished game, good graphics on the Switch didn't notice any struggling. Some things can be hard to see like tap+hold on a square to see the stats, cuz your finger is in the way.

Was skeptical, but it's a decent port.

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - 23 janvier 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was very skeptical that a game with as complex controls as Civ could be made to work on Nintendo Switch, but gave it a try after reading positive reviews. They mostly pulled it off, I must say. I don't even play switch that much, but I've been able to for the most part play this game just fine with the pair of joycons. There are a few cases of inconsistency or just plain confusion, and I've sometimes ended up selecting the wrong option, on some screens, but I suppose that's some what inevitable. The graphics are decent, yet it's reasonably snappy. Pretty good, overall!

Great port with a few downsides I didn't mind

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - 7 septembre 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's a faithful port of the PC game to the Switch, and plays great. Performance issues crop up sometimes, but I find it doesn't detract from the game too much. There are two downsides that I see. One, which doesn't bother me because I mainly play alone, is the limited options for multiplayer -- there is local wireless (so each player needs their own console and game copy) and currently that's it. No online, and currently there is no single-device multiplayer, although I've heard it's something that will be added in an update. The other downside is that a few parts of the interface seem optimized for touch-screen use, which only works in handheld mode, making it a little clunky at times playing on the TV with a controller.

    Complicated but fun

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - 23 janvier 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This game is really complicated. It’s a lot of fun and is very addictive, but watch several tutorials before you play. Even after watching how to guides, put it in a really easy setting to get the hang of the movement and city building/placement strategies. Resources are very important, and if you don’t have the right setup your cities falter and do not grow (making them borderline useless since they cannot make builders or military units). Tons of possibilities on how you want to play. Boost science vs faith vs military vs building wonders of the world.
