What customers are saying

This wide-angle prime lens delivers sharp, high-quality images with good center sharpness, even at the wide f/2 aperture. It has fast, quiet autofocus that works well for both photos and videos. The compact, lightweight design is easy to carry around, and the lens offers impressive low-light capabilities thanks to the f/2 maximum aperture. While not the sharpest in the corners at wide apertures, this lens provides great performance and versatility across a wide range of shooting scenarios.

    Cracking lens

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - February 14, 2017

This is the first lens I bought for my A7ii and I am very, very pleased with them both. The lens is very quick to focus the images are very sharp. The wide F2 gives me great control over focus. I really love the 28mm focal length. What I particularly like is that it gives me the right size frame to use a landscape as a background for someone that is near to me or something that is happening near to me. There is plenty of space to capture a subject right in front of me but I still get plenty of background too. The above coupled with it being small and light means I can take it running in the hills to capture the action & the hills! Awesome value, high quality lens, takes cracking pictures.

    Flyweight Champ

    Reviewed by - September 14, 2018

Very light weight makes it ideal for hikes. Quiet and super fast focus on the A7iii. Image quality is great for the cost, not as sharp as the Zeiss and Sony G series, but pretty darn good. Wide open aperture is a little softer, but by 2.8 its sharpened up. Good bokeh. Very good on the flare and coma. The only con - astrophotography is hard with this lens due to the in-camera manual focus (clutch). There is no way to find set point and mark it on the body, so you are having to fine tune it every time. I had to make a Bahtinov focusing mask to help speed up the process. I've attached some examples (no lens correction or noise reduction)

    Nice Prime

    Reviewed by - April 24, 2018

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed a fast prime for shooting landscapes at night. The kit lens was good at 28, but too slow. This fits my style of shooting and it does very well at night. The distortion is negligible, but if it's an issue you can correct it in post. Bokeh is nice wide open.

    Great Lens, Great Value!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - April 26, 2019

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have about 50 lenses right now. Vintage SLR up to Canon L lenses. This lens is my 2nd sharpest lens only next to the Sony 85mm f/1.8. Auto focus is fast and accurate. The lens is compact and feels well built. I do not plan to shoot in the rain so weather sealing is of little concern to me. This lens on my Sony A7III surpasses the sharpness, image quality and AF over Canon 5Dmk III and my L lenses. 1 negative is that I found it to have some CA in certain high contrast situations. ie...Chrome over black. For the VERY reasonable price, I would say this lens suits hobby folks and pros alike. A great travel lens and a top performer for video work!

    Excellent image quality.

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - April 16, 2016

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Was looking for a prime wide angle lens and decided to go with this one. Sharp pics all around. Great investment. I use it on my Sony A7ii. This lens is on my camera 90% of the time.

    Compact and light.

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - April 18, 2016

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very nice lens! Got a nice deal on an open box deal, it was missing the front lens cap though. This lens is compact, light and pretty sharp wide open, not Zeiss 55mm sharp but sharp enough, stop down to f2.8 it's even better. AF is pretty snappy, in low light it hunts a little, but not too bad. Color rendition is pretty good, not as contrasty as the Zeiss, but it's not bad at all. This is a great less expensive alternative to the 35mm f2.8 Zeiss, and almost as compact. For street photography, it's awesome, and even for wide portraits. I'm really enjoying this classic focal length lens. Definitely worth picking one up if you like this focal length.

    Small, Solid and Sharp

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - December 17, 2015

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So I did a test, put on my 55mm 1.8 Zeiss, then put this little beauty on. Its a perfect compliment, length wise, however sharpness and color quality are near identical. Looks pretty much the same as noted as one of the best lenses out there according to DxO, the 55mm. This 28 is probably the best bang for your buck. Now I do mostly all video, the focus ring and compactness of this are exactly what I was looking for. On the picture side, its the same. Creates beautiful stills. I HIGHLY recommend this lens for any a7 series owner, hands down.

For the money, this lens is sharp!

    Verified BuyerReviewed by - September 25, 2018

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this lens in case I found myself in a situation where a wide-angle lens was needed. This lens is sharp for the money! Good bokeh and nice colors. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a wide-angle prime lens. On a full-frame you get the full 28mm, while on a APS-C camera (with a 1.5x crop factor) you will have 42mm. On a full-frame it is reasonably good enough for vlogging, a 24mm would be better as the 28mm is a tad bit tighter, but just attached it to a gorillapod and you should be fine. The same cannot be said for the APS-C camera, you would need a wider lens as this will be way too tight of a shot for vlogging.
