There is something unsettling about the way this film observes it's central character, a young girl navigating a world she cannot hear but increasingly does not trust. Camilla Belle plays Dot with a kind of watchful stillness, allowing the tension to build in what she sees rather than what she says. As secrets emerge within her new home, the story takes on the tone of a subdued psychological thriller. It is less about revelation than about the quiet dread of understanding too much.
