I'm not much of an audiophile but these are the best I've heard to date.

  • Really good....till it breaks
    by

So, I got the M40x 3 years ago as a Christmas present and it was the best pair of headphones I have ever used. Way better than beats in any possible way. Anyways, during the past 2-3 months, my headphones were falling apart. It started with my 1m cable, it broke at the part where you connect the headphones itself. 2 months later, the hinges for the headphones broke off after using it for only 20 minutes. It was a huge bummer considering that AT is known for their quality and reliability. Sadly, not every headphone are made the same way. Some will have their flaws. Mine was a flawed one that probably outlasted any Beats if you considered how much I've used it. Don't get me wrong though, some Beats are good but usually... actually barely compare to AT. I recommend them but don't abuse them too much. TL;DR: They have good longevity but will break at some point. Still, recommend.

  • Awesome Addition to Home Office for Late Night Work!

Was told my home office music was too loud (i.e. bass through the walls and floor) while working late, and my backup earbuds for home (old Bose in-ears) just weren't cutting it (too used to my Focal Sphears at work now). So, enter the search for a new addition to the home office. After research narrowed to an over-ear style for a comfortable fit, and better audio quality. Had narrowed right down to the fabled Sony MDR-7506 and this one. Took the plunge on the Audio-Technica M40X and don't regret it at all. The fit is great, and they don't have a heavy bulky feel to them. The ear pads look a bit cheap, but are comfortable even with glasses on (not for hours and hours mind you as any over-ear and glasses don't mix). The sounds is the strong suit for them ... they sound awesome; and seal so great that outside noises are extremely muted. Replaceable cables and 2 types of cables (coiled and straight) is a nice perk. The case with them will probably get repurposed for something as I don't see them leaving my desk or becoming a portable walk-around set. As others have pointed out ... you will hear new depth and sounds in your music with them. The only questionable thing in my mind is the longevity of the plastic rotation areas on the headphone. They do seem a bit flimsy. Will see how they do over time. Very very happy with purchase.
