The EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM from Canon is an L-series prime wide-angle lens featuring Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics and a maximum aperture of f/1.4, making it ideal for shooting in low-light situations and for controlling depth of field. Two aspherical elements and one Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) element combine with the BR element to control chromatic aberrations and colour fringing for increased clarity and sharpness. A Subwavelength Coating has also been applied to reduce ghosting and lens flare for greater colour accuracy and contrast. The Ultrasonic autofocus motor (USM) provides fast and near-silent AF operation. Full time manual focus override enables precise manual focus even when in AF mode.
Prime wide-angle lens is designed for full-frame Canon EOS DSLRs, and can also be used with APS-C-sized sensors where it will provide a 56mm equivalent focal length.
The Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics element refracts shorter wavelengths of the visible spectrum (blue light) in order to significantly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing.
A pair of aspherical elements and one UD element also help to control aberrations and distortions for sharper, clearer image quality.
Subwavelength Coating minimizes surface reflections, ghosting, and flare for increased contrast and colour fidelity.
The Ultrasonic Motor offers fast and quiet autofocus performance and also permits full-time manual focus control by simply rotating the focusing ring.
A minimum focus distance of 11" with a 0.21x maximum magnification benefits working with close-up subjects.
Fluorine coatings on the front and rear surfaces help reduce fingerprints and smudging.
Featuring the L-series designation, this lens is also dust and moisture-resistant for use in trying conditions.
A nine-blade aperture provides smooth and pleasing out-of-focus areas in selective focus imageSPECIFICATIONS

- Hard to beat this lens- May 17, 2018
The 35mm ii 1.4 is simply as good as it gets right now in terms of a 35mm prime at an affordable price. I spent days weighing my options between this and the Sigma Art 1.4. Went with this one and I'm glad I did. I own the 24mm Sigma Art, and I use it a lot, but it doesn't focus in the dark like the Canon. There's just some special sauce Canon uses when it comes to their auto focusing that just blows everyone else out of the water. If you purchase this lens, you will be preventing any headache you might get from a lens problem. It's just a great lens. SO sharp.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- One Word EXCELLENT- December 11, 2015
I am going to keep this short and sweet this is an excellent lens with great sharpness, color, contrast etc. Yes the lens is bigger than version one, yes the lens is heavier than version one but honestly I love the way it handles and feels in the hand. There is some vignetting but I actually like it for certain shots and it can be removed EASILY if not wanted. This is definitely for the professional. I do think it is a little bit expensive but quality cost sometimes and the quality is top notch. A big thumbs up.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
- Canon's Best L-Series Lens- November 17, 2018
This lens is phenomenal, there are no other words. Read Canon's specs and one quickly sees that the internal elements are special. The results are some of the best pictures possible. Focus is lightening quick and tack-sharp every time. At wide apertures, the bokeh is gloriously pleasing and easily creates a nice contextual photo expected of a lens in this focal length. It is wonderful for landscapes, full body portraits and general photography. It has become my go-to lens on my second full-frame camera, my primary camera being a Canon 24-70 f2.8 LII. I don't leave home without this lens. It is expensive, much more than Sigma's offering, but so worth the extra investment. After trying the 35mm Sigma Art lens, which didn't play nice with the 5D4, this lens was purchased instead -- no regrets especially since it is also fully weather-sealed. Many reviewers say that this is Canon's best lens. This reviewer agrees.Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
