  • Great Alternative to a Canon L Series
Verified BuyerReviewed by JthePhotographer - July 30, 2016

I love this lens, I've had it for nearly a month and to date have taken over 1500 pictures with it. Yes it's heavy, but so is a Canon L series lens, 200-400mm with the 1.4x extender weighs more at nearly 8lbs, this Sigma weights 6.6lbs. This lens is also a fifth the price! If you cannot deal with the weight, get the Contemporary (which my partner has and loves). I love the reach this lens gives me, I primarily shoot wildlife, this lens has put so much into my reach. If you buy this lens, do yourself two favors, buy a good monopod/tripod, and get the Sigma TS-81 grip, which improves the balance of the lens a thousand-fold, it also makes carrying the lens easier.

  • Great lens but slow
    Reviewed by Moritz - February 14, 2016

I purchased this lens for my 7D Mark II in the summer of 2015 to photograph birds. The lens really brings the birds close, and there is no distortion at the corners even when shooting at 600 mm. My only gripe is that at f-5, it is awfully slow. While the advertisement claims that it shoots well in shade, that is not quite true. Unless you are shooting a still object at a slow speed, your picture will be slightly blurry. Unfortunately, birds do not tend to be still. I try to fix some of the blur on the computer, but I have limited success. Overall, I do like the lens, however, and, since I cannot afford the $11,000 lens my friend bought, this $1,650 one will have to do--for now.

  • great picture quality
Verified BuyerReviewed by adigpictaker - January 31, 2017

I bought this hoping the take bird pics with great depth of field and great picture quality and I was not disappointed concerning this but was totally pleased in picture quality. the only problem was that after holding the lens up for a while, I feel like the lens weighs about 10 lb(it does't really I don't think) but it still feels like it. I know you can use a tripod but I just usually grab and shoot. If you will use a tripod or have strong muscles it would be great and have great pic quality, but if you want convenience and lack arm strength I don't recommend. I was mixed on this!
