What types of games are available on PlayStation 5?

The PlayStation 5 is home to a variety of games from first-party exclusive games from PlayStation Studios, to third party publishers big and small from all types of genres. You’ll enjoy games ranging from AAA titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Watch Dogs Legion to indie games like Worms Rumble and Where the Heart Is on PlayStation 5.

Furthermore, with backwards compatibility, you will be able to choose from and play thousands of your favourite PlayStation 4 games.

Are games backwards compatible with previous PlayStation consoles?

The majority of, the over 4000, PlayStation 4 games available are backwards compatible with the PlayStation 5. That means you’ll be able to play your favourite PlayStation 4 games like God of War, Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation 5. With PlayStation 5’s next-generation power, PlayStation 4 games will run at a more stable frame rate and some games will even have higher resolutions.

Backwards compatibility of PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation games on PlayStation 5 is still unknown at this point. Sony intends to make an announcement in the near future in regards to backwards compatibility of these games on PlayStation 5.

With this being said, PlayStation 5 games are not backwards compatible with previous PlayStation consoles. That means that you will not be able to play PlayStation 5 games on your PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation.

Will there be digital & physical versions of PlayStation 5 games available?

The overwhelming majority of PlayStation 5 games will have both digital and physical versions of games. There are however games that might only feature a digital version that can be downloaded and installed directly from the PlayStation Store onto your PlayStation 5. These are generally indie games that, to help reduce costs, only get a digital release.

Will there be PlayStation 5 exclusive games?
