• Move like a fish with an underwater scooter

An underwater scooter gives you that extra push under water, whether you're playing games in the pool at home or scuba diving in the ocean.

    What is an underwater scooter?

You're probably familiar with scooters, but you might not have heard of underwater scooters. They are mechanically propelled to pull you under water so you can move further, faster, with less effort than manual swimming alone. Think of them like above-ground electric scooters but using hands instead of feet while swimming.

Also known as Diver Propulsion Vehicles (DPVs), underwater propulsion vehicles, sea scooters, or Swimmer Delivery Vehicles (SDVs), they have handles on either side to hold. Turn it on using a dedicated power switch than use the gear shifter on the opposite side. Hold on and move your body to steer in the desired direction.

Underwater scooters weigh anywhere from 4 to 8 lbs. and the fastest underwater scooter can often travel at a rate of about 1.5 metres per second using dual motors and go as deep as 30 metres underwater. You'll get about 35 minutes of drive time with one.

How and when would you use an underwater scooter?

Underwater scooters were originally designed for use while scuba diving since they help you move around without exerting as much energy. The added power provided by the scooter means you'll require less oxygen from the oxygen tank and can thus stay underwater longer. It's no surprise, then, that underwater scooters are popular amongst scuba drivers.

But of late, underwater scooters are becoming popular for recreational use, too. You can use one as an equipment transporter, or while playing underwater games in the ocean or pool at home.

Fun for kids when used safely, underwater scooters are a popular way to enhance water sports, taking your active time and fun games to the next level.

What are some worthwhile features to consider with an underwater scooter?

You'll want an underwater scooter that isn't too heavy and that is ideally sized, whether it's being used by an adult, child, or both. It's a good idea to buy a back-up battery so you can swap out and extend usage time to get the most out of it each time.

Some underwater scooters are compatible with action cameras so you can film the underwater activity, whether it's discovering treasures while scuba diving, playing games, or just capturing the gorgeous aquatic life.

Consider a finish that will stand out and be visible from above, like black or flaming red. Conversely, you'll find that some models are designed to look like ocean sunfish so they blend beautifully within the water. Don't forget to rinse it in freshwater after each use and rinse and dry before putting away until your next underwater adventure.
