Introducing the newest iPad mini
Apple has given the iPad mini a makeover, and it starts with a newer and larger display, along with a better body to make the company’s smallest tablet feel bigger than it truly is. You gain additional features, including more powerful performance on the inside with a new processor. You also don’t lose out on familiar features that make the iPad so intuitive, like the Touch ID fingerprint sensor and the Liquid Retina display with True Tone.
This is the 6th-generation iPad mini, and while it retains the same size, the 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display fits into the same space. Apple slimmed down the bezels surrounding it for a more modern look to this tablet’s face. You do get the same max brightness of 500 nits, with the sharpness and clarity the iPad has always been known for.
What’s new with this iPad mini?
The newest iPad mini runs on the A15 Bionic processor with Neural Engine, giving it a boost over the previous model. Apple says CPU performance can clock as high as 40% faster, while GPU output hits as high as 80% faster. You will find Touch ID on the power button to unlock the tablet with ease.
You can attach the 2nd-generation Apple Pencil (sold separately) onto the side of the iPad mini, where it will automatically charge upon contact via their respective magnets. Use the Pencil to draw or work on anything with greater precision when you need it.
When it is time to connect, this tablet supports both Wi-Fi 6 and 5G for the fastest speeds available. Apple also removed the headphone jack, so put on a pair of Bluetooth wireless headphones or earbuds and pair them to listen to audio that way. If you prefer to listen out loud, new stereo speakers line the iPad mini along the sides when you watch in landscape mode.
You can also say goodbye to the Lightning port, and welcome USB-C to the mini. Charge it up quickly, and use various accessories capable of utilizing the widely-used port to get more out of this tablet.
Taking Center Stage
It also comes with a new 12-megapixel front camera that supports Apple’s Center Stage feature. It’s a higher-resolution camera that can zoom in or pan to keep you in the frame and visible to those you communicate with on video calls. It shows video in 1080p HD, and offers improved dynamic range to make you and everyone else on the call look better.
The rear camera is also equipped with a 12-megapixel image sensor and wider aperture to produce better photos, as well as recording video in 4K at 60fps—a first for the iPad mini.
