FAQ
A 2.1 PC speaker system includes two satellite speakers for the left and right audio channels, plus a dedicated subwoofer for bass. This differs from a 2.0 setup, which uses two speakers without a separate subwoofer.
Common connection options include a 3.5 mm audio cable, USB audio and Bluetooth. Some systems also accept optical or RCA inputs. Check which audio outputs your computer has and which inputs the speaker system supports. A USB connection may provide power only rather than carry audio.
Most 2.1 PC speakers do not require a separate sound card. Systems with a 3.5 mm input can typically connect to a computer’s built-in headphone or line-out jack. USB audio systems use a compatible USB port, while Bluetooth systems require a computer with Bluetooth audio support.
Common controls include power, master volume and bass level. Depending on the system, controls may be located on a satellite speaker, the subwoofer, a wired control pod or a wireless remote. Some systems also include input selection and separate treble adjustment.
Some 2.1 PC speaker systems include a headphone jack on a satellite speaker or control pod. Whether plugging in headphones automatically mutes the speakers depends on the system. If there is no headphone output, headphones can connect separately to the computer.
