FAQ
Yes. A sound bar does not need to be from Sony to connect to a Sony TV. Check that both devices have a compatible audio connection, such as HDMI ARC, HDMI eARC, or optical. Some brand-specific features may require a matching TV and sound bar.
For an HDMI connection, connect the TV’s HDMI port labelled ARC or eARC to the corresponding port on the sound bar. Then select the external audio system in the TV’s sound settings. If both devices have optical ports, you can use an optical cable instead and select the optical input on the sound bar.
Many sound bars connected through HDMI ARC or eARC support volume and power control through the TV remote using HDMI-CEC. On Sony TVs, this setting is commonly called BRAVIA Sync. Enable the feature on both devices where available. Remote control support through an optical connection varies by model.
Check that the sound bar supports Dolby Atmos and that the TV can pass through the audio format used by your source. You also need content with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack and a compatible app or playback device. HDMI eARC supports Dolby TrueHD-based Atmos, while Dolby Digital Plus-based Atmos may work through HDMI ARC when supported by both devices.
Some sound bars include a wireless subwoofer or support optional rear speakers. These accessories usually pair with the sound bar rather than the TV and must be compatible with the sound bar’s specific system. Check accessory compatibility before choosing components, as wireless speakers and subwoofers are not universally interchangeable.
