FAQ
A retro-style camera combines design elements inspired by classic film cameras with either digital or film photography. Common features include textured grips, metallic finishes, physical control dials and vintage-inspired body shapes.
Retro-style cameras can be digital, film-based or instant cameras. Digital models save images to a memory card, traditional film cameras use film that requires developing, and instant cameras produce physical prints. The retro appearance does not determine how a camera captures photos.
Many retro-style cameras feature physical dials for shutter speed, exposure compensation or ISO, while some compatible lenses include an aperture ring. Digital models may also offer automatic modes, touchscreen menus and customizable buttons alongside these traditional controls.
Some retro-style cameras use interchangeable lenses, while others have a fixed lens. Interchangeable-lens models accept lenses designed for their lens mount, with adapters available for certain other lens types. Fixed-lens models keep the lens attached as part of the camera.
Many retro-style digital cameras include colour profiles, black-and-white modes or film-inspired presets. These settings can adjust elements such as contrast, colour and grain. Available effects vary by camera, and the vintage exterior does not necessarily mean the photos will have a vintage look.
