FAQ
Consider Ethernet ports for a console or gaming PC, support for your router’s Wi-Fi standard, and app-based management. Some extenders also offer access point mode or integration with compatible mesh systems. Check which features require a particular router or network configuration.
Dual-band extenders typically use the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Tri-band models add another band, which may be an additional 5 GHz band or a 6 GHz band, depending on the Wi-Fi standard. Some models reserve one band for communication with the router.
Many Wi-Fi extenders include an Ethernet port that can connect a gaming console or PC. In extender mode, the link between the extender and router usually remains wireless. Check the extender’s documentation, as Ethernet port functions can vary by operating mode.
Extender mode connects to an existing wireless network and rebroadcasts it. Access point mode uses an Ethernet connection to the router or wired network to provide a wireless connection. Not every extender supports both modes, so check the supported configurations before choosing one.
Depending on the model and setup, an extender may use your existing network name or create a separate one. Compatible mesh-based options commonly use a shared network name. Using the same name alone does not make a standard extender part of a mesh system.
