Best PS5 Controllers

The Best PS5 Controllers bring together comfort, responsive controls, and features that suit the way you play, whether that means settling into a story-driven adventure or squeezing in a few competitive matches after work. A controller is the part of your setup you hold for hours at a time, so small differences in grip shape, weight, and button placement can make a noticeable difference. Rounded handles may feel more natural during longer sessions, while textured surfaces can help you keep a steady grip when a close match comes down to the final seconds. Players with smaller hands may prefer a design that keeps shoulder buttons and thumbsticks within easy reach; others may appreciate a roomier layout. When browsing this selection, look beyond appearance and consider the controls you use most often. Smooth thumbstick movement can matter when lining up a careful shot, a clearly defined directional pad can support precise inputs in fighting games, and comfortably positioned face buttons can make fast combinations feel less awkward. The right fit should let you focus on what is happening on screen rather than constantly adjusting your hands.

Features and compatibility deserve just as much attention as feel. Check that a controller explicitly supports PS5 games, since working with the console does not necessarily mean an accessory supports every game available on it. Depending on the model, features may include haptic feedback, adaptive trigger effects, remappable buttons, adjustable trigger travel, or interchangeable thumbstick components. These serve different purposes: supported feedback effects can add texture to an in-game moment, while rear buttons can put frequently used actions within reach without requiring you to lift a thumb from a stick. Shorter trigger travel may appeal to players who favour quick inputs, whereas a fuller trigger pull may feel more satisfying for gradual acceleration in racing games. Not every controller includes every feature, and some functions depend on the game, connection method, or settings. Wired and wireless options also suit different setups. A wired connection avoids interruptions to recharge, provided the cable comfortably reaches your seat; wireless play offers more freedom to settle back on the couch. For rechargeable models, consider stated battery life, charging connections, and whether a charging cable or other accessories are included. Headset connectivity is another useful detail to check if voice chat is part of your regular routine.

An additional PS5 controller can be a practical upgrade for a shared console, a welcome gift for a regular player, or simply a way to keep a charged option ready for the next session. For households that enjoy local multiplayer, having another compatible controller makes it easier to turn a quiet evening into a racing rivalry or a cooperative adventure, as long as the chosen game supports local play. A distinctive colour can help family members tell their controllers apart at a glance, while a familiar layout may be the safest choice for someone who wants to pick up and play without learning new controls. If you are buying a gift, take note of what the recipient already enjoys and whether they have mentioned uncomfortable grips, limited battery life, or a wish for more customisable inputs. Those everyday details often point towards a better match than appearance alone. Compare included accessories, warranty coverage, and any available replacement components alongside the features that matter most to you. A well-chosen controller should fit naturally into your gaming routine, from a short lunchtime session to an evening spent exploring every last corner of a favourite game.
