FAQ
OLED TVs use self-lit pixels that can turn off individually, creating deep blacks and strong contrast for movie scenes. LED TVs use an LCD panel with LED backlighting, and many offer high brightness for daytime sports viewing. Mini-LED is a type of LED backlighting, while QLED generally refers to an LCD TV with quantum dots for colour.
The native refresh rate is the number of times the screen updates each second, measured in hertz (Hz). A native 120Hz panel can display more frequent updates than a 60Hz panel, though the broadcast or stream determines how many distinct frames are available. Advertised motion ratings are not the same as native refresh rates.
Common formats include HDR10, Dolby Vision and HDR10+. HDR allows compatible content to include a wider range of brightness and colour detail. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ include dynamic metadata that can adjust how content is presented from scene to scene. The TV and the movie source must support the same format to use it.
Cinema or Movie modes typically use warmer colour settings and less processing to present films closer to their intended appearance. Sports modes often increase brightness, colour intensity and motion smoothing. Settings vary by TV, and motion smoothing can give movies a video-like appearance often called the soap opera effect.
HDMI eARC sends audio from a TV to a compatible soundbar or AV receiver through an HDMI connection. It supports higher-bandwidth audio formats than standard HDMI ARC, including certain lossless surround-sound formats. Audio support depends on the TV, connected audio equipment and the movie or sports source.
