Best Buy's Commitment to the Environment

Powering a more sustainable planet, together.

Our mission

We all have a role to play in preserving our planet. Across Best Buy in Canada and the US, we are committed to our role of being an environmentally responsible organization.

As a company, Best Buy is dedicated to adapting and evolving our business to reduce carbon emissions and waste.

Our goals

Reduce carbon emissions in our operations by 75%.

We plan to decrease carbon emissions in our operations by 75% (over our 2009 baseline) to reach our goal of being carbon neutral by 2040. Part of this goal will be achieved by increasing overall efficiencies across the organization, such as converting all our store lighting to LED, adopting routing logic to reduce fuel consumption across our Geek Squad fleet and delivery service, and operating an energy management system at our Canadian headquarters.

Reduce carbon emissions for our customers by 20%.

We plan to lower carbon emissions for our customers by 20% (over our 2017 baseline) by 2030, saving $5 billion in energy costs. The key to achieving this goal is through empowering customers with knowledge, and offering products and services that will help them make environmentally impactful decisions.

Working together towards a circular economy

We've designed programs and services to help our customers join us in taking part in a circular economy: a system where nothing is wasted, following the principles of reuse, reduce, and recycle.

Discover how each program and service helps you keep products in use for as long as possible, get the most value from products while you're using them, and how we recover and recycle products and materials at the end of their lifecycle.

Green Team.

We believe it takes all areas of the company, making thoughtful decisions every day, to reach our goals. For that reason, we’ve created a group of people with different experience and from all departments at Best Buy Canada to build and implement our sustainability plans. Our Green Team drives the work we’re doing and raises awareness of our environmental efforts with team members, customers, and vendors.

Awards and recognition

From our recycling program to our carbon reduction commitments, our work to address climate change has contributed to us being recognized as a leader in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
