Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply for multiple grants?
Eligible robotics teams may submit one application each. If a school or organization has multiple teams, they may submit separate applications. A school may also submit a separate Teen Tech Grants application, if applicable.
Who should be involved in creating the application?
Applications should be created by team members and their adult mentor(s) or supervisor(s). The most successful applications are generally those developed by a team of stakeholders. The application must be approved by the team's adult leader. If the team is part of a school program, the application must be approved by the school's principal, with support, or within the guidelines of the school district or board.
Why are these grants only for high school level students competing in a robotics competition?
Teen Tech Teams is part of our new Teen Tech for Tomorrow program, which focuses on improving tech equity for students at a time when they're considering post-secondary education and future careers. Robotics competitions give high school students the opportunity to build and program robots against a field of competitors, as well as learn valuable skills such as building a brand and developing community partnerships. We want to support the next generation of engineers, programmers, and leaders in STEAM.
How do we select our winners?
Grant winners will be determined by a cross-sectional panel of Best Buy Canada and Alienware employees. The panel will decide which teams will be selected based on the quality of the applications provided, and other considerations, including but not limited to, how many teens will be impacted by the donation and the team's need for resources.
When do we announce the results?
The results will be announced in fall 2026.
Do I need to spend my grant money at Best Buy?
We pride ourselves on having the latest and greatest technology that students need to excel in school and have a dedicated Best Buy for Education team who can help teachers with their purchases. We do, however, recognize that many items may not be available for purchase from Best Buy. As well, schools may bound by school district-approved vendors impacting the technology that can be purchased, installed, and serviced in schools. For this reason, we provide monetary donations. Teen Tech Team grants may be used to purchase materials and equipment from any retailer or provider, but may not be used towards travel or accommodations.
