The Best Buy Express Cup Wraps Its First Season with a Grand Finale at Place Bell
Nearly 1,600 young hockey players took to the ice across Québec this season — all for the love of the game.
On March 29, the Best Buy Express Cup (Coupe Best Buy Express) capped off its very first season with an unforgettable Grand Finale at Place Bell in Laval — the same professional rink that hosts thousands of fans, now home to Québec’s next generation of hockey stars.
Launched in November 2025 in partnership with Hockey Québec, the Best Buy Express Cup is the largest recreational minor hockey tournament in Québec. The community-driven program was created to bring families together on the ice and to celebrate Best Buy Express’s growing presence across the province.
A season-long celebration of the game
Over the course of the 2025–26 season, the tournament brought together nearly 1,600 teenagers aged 13 to 17 for a province-wide competition. Qualifying matches were held in local communities where Best Buy Express stores operate — including St-Eustache, Sherbrooke, Valcartier, and Val-Bélair — before the winning teams advanced to the Grand Finale.
True to its spirit, the Cup is free for participants, non-competitive, and open to all. Played in a fast-paced 4-on-4 format, it puts the focus squarely on the positive values of sport: teamwork, fun, healthy living, and the simple joy of playing the game together.
“What we wanted to do is to have an event for kids and teenagers, something non-competitive, something that can be for boys and girls, where they can play,” said Thierry Lopez, spokesperson for Best Buy. For many young athletes, stepping onto a professional rink was a dream come true — a moment they won’t soon forget.
A day to remember at Place Bell
The Grand Finale was about far more than the final score. The day featured a full schedule of activities for kids and parents alike, including a meet-and-greet (and skate!) with former Montréal Canadiens player Georges Laraque.
More than a hockey tournament, the Best Buy Express Cup is a meaningful way to give back to communities, support local youth, and help them grow through sport. As the first season comes to a close, we’re already looking forward to what’s next.
