Returning or Exchanging a Best Buy Product

Most purchases from Best Buy can be returned or exchanged at any store that’s open for pickup, or by mail, for up to either 14 or 30 days from the date of purchase, depending on the type of product, and the condition of its return.

Please see our full list of return and exchange policies for more information on product-specific return period windows, and what condition products must be in to be accepted for a return.

Extended holiday return policy

For items purchased after October 29, 2020, we’ll gladly give you a refund or exchange on your purchases until January 16, 2021 OR 14-30 days* from purchase date, whichever is longer. And for your convenience, returns or exchanges can be made in-store or by mail**.

Please note:

• The extended holiday return policy does not apply to cellular/wireless devices and may not apply to purchases from Best Buy Marketplace

• A store credit will be issued for any gift receipt returns

Returning or exchanging an item at a store

If you've made an in-store, online, or Quick and Easy Store Pickup purchase, you can complete a return or exchange at any Best Buy store in Canada that’s currently open. You can check the status of your local store using our store locator.

Rest assured that we are taking every precaution with returns and exchanges at this time, including safely accepting items from you, and thoroughly cleaning them before they go back on our shelves. 

Currently, we're only able to offer contactless debit card and credit card refunds. If you paid with cash, your refund can be in the form of a gift card, or we can process it as a refund to your debit card.

Additionally, if an item is being shipped to you in multiple boxes, please wait until you've received the final box before making a return. The return period will start after you get the final box.

How to return or exchange an item at a store:

  1. Locate your printed receipt or e-receipt, and check to make sure your purchase is eligible to be returned using our product-specific return policies. Please pay attention to the condition a product must be in to be accepted for a return, and that you are still within the specified return period window.
  2. Bring the item and your receipt to any Best Buy store that’s currently open and talk to a Blue Shirt advisor to get your return or exchange started. You can check the status of your local stores by using our store locator. If your local store is closed, please contact us

Returning an item purchased online by mail

The fastest and easiest way to return an item is by bringing it to a Best Buy store near you. However, in some cases, certain items that have been purchased online can be returned by mail. 

Before getting a mail return started, check to make sure your purchase is eligible to be returned using our product-specific return policies. Please pay attention to the condition a product must be in to be accepted for a return.

Additionally, if an item is being shipped to you in multiple boxes, please wait until you've received the final box before making a return. The return period will start after you get the final box.

How to return an item purchased online by mail:

  1. Find your order, then select the item you would like to return.
  2. If the item is still within the return period window, you will see a “Start a Return” button. Select this to see your options.
  3. If it’s eligible to be returned, you’ll receive information on how to get the item back to us.

Once we've received the item, we’ll process a refund to your original method of payment within 10 days.

Please be aware that return shipping labels are only valid for either 5 or 14 days after we email it to you, depending on your order’s shipping method:

  • Return labels for orders shipped via Purolator are valid for 5 days.
  • Return labels for orders shipped via Canada Post are valid for 14 days.

Returning a large item

For the safety of our customers and delivery partners, large items (including major appliances, large TVs, and some exercise equipment) can only be picked up for return if our agent is able to safely enter your home. 

For our agent to be able to enter your home, you’ll have to answer a few simple screening questions when they arrive at your residence. If your answers meet our safety standards, our agent will proceed to receive your return. If your answers do not meet our safety standards, we ask that you keep the item at your home until it is safe for an agent to collect it.

Before getting a return started, please check to make sure your purchase is eligible to be returned using our product-specific return policies paying attention to the condition a product must be in to be accepted for a return. Additionally, any returns or exchanges will only be accepted if the item has been cleaned and sanitized by you.

Additionally, if a large item is being shipped to you in multiple boxes, please wait until you've received the final box before starting a scheduled large item return. The return period will start after you get the final box.

How to start a scheduled large item return online:

  1. Find your order then select the large item you would like to return.
  2. If the item is still within the return period window, you will see a “Start a Return” button. Select this.
  3. Choose how you would like to contact us to request a scheduled large item return.
  4. Provide any information needed.
  5. Once your return request has been approved, you will receive an email with further instructions outlining how to prepare the large item for its scheduled pickup.

How to start a scheduled large item return in-store:

  1. Locate your printed receipt or e-receipt, and check to make sure your purchase is eligible to be returned using our product-specific return policies. Please pay attention to the condition a product must be in to be accepted for a return, and that you are still within the specified return period window.
  2. Bring your receipt to any Best Buy store that’s currently open and talk to a Blue Shirt advisor about how to get a scheduled large item return started. You can check the status of your local store by using our store locator. If your local store is closed, please contact us.

Returning a gift, bonus item, or bundle item

Returning a gift

Best Buy is one of Canada's favourite places to get for gifts for friends, family, and loved ones. However, we know that sometimes what you've been gifted... might not be exactly what you wanted.

How to return an gift if you have a gift receipt:

  1. Check your gift receipt to make sure that the item you want to return is still eligible to be returned using our product-specific return policies. Please pay attention to the condition a product must be in to be accepted for a return, and that you are still within the specified return period window. 
  2. Bring the item and your gift receipt to any Best Buy store near you that’s currently open and talk to a Blue Shirt advisor to get a gift return started. If your local store is closed, please contact us

Please note that the value of the item(s) being returned can only be credited to a Best Buy gift card. 

If you were not given a gift receipt, and you feel comfortable doing so, please ask the gift giver to come in-store to confirm their information so we can provide them with a gift receipt that they can then give to you. Once you have the gift receipt, simply follow the steps outlined above. 

Returning a bonus item

Bonus items, or free gifts, are items that are included free with certain purchases, and can only be exchanged in-store if they are defective. 

If you wish to return an item that came with a bonus item or free gift, you will need to return both the item that you paid for and the bonus item to be eligible for a refund. 

Please note that all defective and non-defective items (including bonus items and free gifts) must be returned in their original purchase condition, with their original packing material, blank warranty cards, manuals, and any other item or accessory provided by the manufacturer. 

Returning an item that is part of a bundle

Bundling items together allows us to offer them to you at a (combined) lower price than if you were to purchase them all separately.

If you decide to return one (or some) of the items included in a bundle, you will be charged the stand-alone price for the items you wish to keep, which may be higher, then refunded for the items you wish to return.

How to return an item that is part of a bundle:

  1. Locate your printed receipt or e-receipt, and check to make sure that the bundle item(s) you want to return are eligible to be returned using our product-specific return policies Please pay attention to the condition a product must be in to be accepted for a return, and that you are still within the specified return period window.
  2. Bring the item(s) from the bundle you wish to return and your printed receipt or e-receipt to a Best Buy store near you that’s currently open and talk to a Blue Shirt advisor to get a return started. If your local store is closed, please contact us.
