Pre-Ordering a Phone
Pre-ordering the latest phone is the best way to make sure you're among the first to get it on release day. Depending on whether you want an unlocked device or a carrier plan, the process to place your pre-order is a bit different.
Pre-ordering a phone online
Skip the lines by pre-ordering your new phone online. You can choose an unlocked phone for direct home delivery, or a carrier phone to be picked up and activated in-store once it's released.
Unlocked phones
If you're looking to buy a new phone outright without a plan, getting an unlocked phone is the best way to do that.
How it works: Choose "Unlocked" on the product page along with your preferred colour and storage options. Add to cart when you're ready to checkout.
Payment: You'll pay the full price of the phone at the time of your pre-order.
Delivery: Once the phone is officially released, it will be shipped directly to your door. Unlocked phone pre-orders placed online cannot be picked up in store.
Carrier phones
If you've been meaning to upgrade to a new plan, pre-ordering a phone with a carrier is the best option. You can choose a plan that works for you when your new phone is ready for pickup.
How it works: Choose a carrier on the product page along with your preferred colour and storage options. You'll also need to choose a store where you can pick up your new phone.
Payment: You'll pay a $50 refundable deposit at the checkout to reserve the phone.
Pickup: We'll let you know when your new phone is ready for pickup in store. Once you arrive, our team will be there to help get you set up on a plan for your new device.

Pre-ordering a phone in store
Prefer a personalized experience? No problem. You can pre-order an unlocked or carrier phone by visiting any of our Best Buy store locations.
Unlocked phones
You can head to your nearest Best Buy store and pay for the full cost of the phone or put down a $50 refundable deposit and pay the full amount when your phone is ready for pickup.
Best Buy Express locations offer unlocked phone pre‑orders as well, but inventory is limited and availability may vary by location.
Carrier phones
Speak to a Blue Shirt about the phone you'd like to pre-order and they will walk you through the process. A $50 refundable deposit will also be required for a carrier phone pre-order in store.
At Best Buy Express locations, phone pre‑orders are available only for Bell and Virgin plans.
Cancelling a phone pre-order
If you've changed your mind, you can cancel your pre-order any time before you pick it up or it ships.
If you selected in-store pickup, your cancellation must be done in store. Bring your pre-order receipt to your chosen Best Buy store and speak to a Blue Shirt so they can cancel it for you. They'll also refund your deposit if you made one.
If you selected home delivery, you can cancel your pre-order online. Access your Order Details by signing My Best Buy account or looking up your order. You cannot cancel a pre-order after it enters "Shipped" status. After your pre-order is cancelled, a refund will be issued to your original payment method and will include your deposit.
Picking up your pre-order and holding policy
We will let you know when your phone is ready for pickup and hold onto it for 3 days at your chosen store.
If you are unable to pick it up within 3 days of being advised your phone is ready, we will cancel your pre-order automatically. To get your deposit refunded, you will need to visit your chosen Best Buy store.
